Peter Jackson and 20 Century FOX told us all HALO was postponed sue to a lack of interest. No one believed that, but then the movie and all information about it disappeared from everyone's radar. HALO fans, as well as Peter Jackson fans felt let down and couldn't figure out how this project didn't make it.

Flash to E3 2007 where viewers and guests were treated to a trailer showing props that required a lot of work. We were then told it was just a promotional clip for Halo 3. No one asked why there was a LIVE ACTION clip to promote the game? Well XF did. Shortly after E3, images of full size Warthogs started popping up on the net. The public still didn't put 2 and 2 together. Now I know some of you did, but wanted proof to back up your theories.

Put your theories to rest. The movie is already in production. Those Warthogs are from the movie. D.B. Weiss (Lucky Wander Boy) handled the final script with Neill Blomkamp handling directing responsibilities. There really is a reason they came out of New Zealand. Think about it. Halo ... grassy rolling hills ... Peter Jackson? All we've learned so far is that the movie is set for release the Summer of 2008 and is planned to be heavily marketed. Again, this is confirmed. So sit back an relax Halo fans. Your movie is less than a year from being in theaters.

I thought it was canceled due to the $220 million budget which would have required every single person who saw bought the game to see the movies 7 times.

Wow, I have to admit seeing real life warthogs it never even crossed my mind that it was for the movie. Makes perfect sense though. Can't wait. I hope its a great movie.

Is this a reliable source? I have a hard time believing it is really in production now? And summer 2008 no less??? Slightly rushed?

I heard a summer of '09 release, right around the same time the metal gear solid movie kicks out. Yea, they are doing some filming for halo in New Zealand, which is why one guy has been seeing driving the warthog around like its his daily driver. what would you do with a sweet movie prop (some prop) in between filming, because for a while, it was up in the air if the movie was even gonna be filmed at all. There was a teaser trailer floating around, it was marked a "live action" halo 3 promotional, but rumor has it its actually teaser footage of the movie, I think it was called: Halo - Arms Race. Anyway, until it's officially released, we will be left just chomping at little bits, I'm not sure how official the above really is.

Arms Race is a Halo 3 commercial shown at E3 which was directed by Neil Blomkamp. Neil is said to be the director of the Halo movie. If you look at his shorts on youtube you will see why this is an amaziing choice. Wether or not this halo movie is made I want to see Neil direct a feature.

Any other sources on this guy driving a warthog around NZ? I'm surprised the movie is not filiming in South AFrica to be honest with you...

I hope I'm wrong, but there is no way this movie will be released by Summer '08 unless the production is scaled back significantly.

what no Uwe Bowle?

I thought he had a lock on turning good vid games into the worst movies to hit the big screen.

i'm sure a Halo movie is going to be made, and it's possible to use the same director as the E3 short, but seriously dude. We need a better source than "xbox family" website that no one's ever heard of. That is simply a rumor, nothing more. If someone like IGN or Rotten Tomatoes start reporting it, then we're on to somehtinhg.

now, sure, imo, it would make financial sense for the movie to be secretly in production, I'm just saying a better source is needed. that source provided means absolutely nothing. It's akin to me posting breaking news all over the web.... "guys, halo movie is confirmed, under production in new zealand!!!!" "joe schmoe over at fanboycentral.com says it's true."

"Alex Garland was paid $1 million by Microsoft to write an adaptation of the popular game. Microsoft then sold the script to Universal for $10 million."

Yeah, I'm going with this being rumor, if anything because of the 2008 release. Movies are promoted WAY ahead of their actual release (we're seeing teasers for movies coming out next summer).

I'd be very surprised if this movie doesn't get made. Halo has proved itself to be a marketing cash cow (have you seen how many tie-ins Halo 3 has?), and I'm sure MS and Bungie are just craving all the money they think they'll make.

Well, the Halo:Arms Race promo REALLY shows how derivative of Aliens the Halo art style is! They could save a lot of money by just reusing most of the props. Still, Halo has a pretty good story that goes beyond the bodycount, so it should be a better game->film adaptation than most games.

Careful, this kind of talk can piss people off (although I agree with everything you've said).

This is not confirmed at all. It would be all over the wire services.

I would love to see a Halo movie but it would have to be modeled after "Fall of Reach." It's a great story for those who haven't read it (prequel to Halo 1).

That would be cool. I've never read the Halo books, but seeing a movie that explained the back story and led up to the first game, and the creation of Master Chief, would interest me. Probably more so than seeing the adaptation of the game. I'm sure that it'll never happen, as people want to see MC on screen, but this idea is quite cool.

As much as I want them to make a good game out of Halo (and after reading all teh books, I know there is definitely at least one or maybe 2 good movies in there), I just can't beleive they can be ready for Summer 08. I will be happy if this turns out to be true, but call shenannigans at this point.

Fall of Reach would be cool, but there's no way the first Halo movie to make it to the theater won't feature the Halo itself prominently.

They might could do something like that in 10 years if they are lucky enought to have 2-3 blockbusters out of the franchise, but to start it off they'll have to go with Halo. They may add a bit more at the beginning of the movie explaining the universe a little better than the game did.

To appease everyone, they could have 1/3 of the film explain the back story and 2/3 would be him as the Master Chief. There is plenty of material in the book to cater to just about everyone. It's good stuff especially if you are a fan of the series.

Without giving away too much, there are some significant space battles leading up to the start of Halo 1 that are intense and massive in scale. I would think the special effects folks would have a field day with them.

Also, the genesis of Cortana, the history of Commander Keyes, and the story of the other Spartans is quite interesting.

Well, they could sprinkle flashbacks of what the MC went through in his training with the Halo stuff. The books are written that way anyway so it would hold true, they would just have to speed some things up a little or gloss over. If done right, there is plenty of material to make it as long or as short as they want.
