View Full Version : When will we see Superman Returns (TrueHD) on shelves? ThePrisoner 08-18-07, 05:33 PM I ask this question because I received a replacement HD DVD copy from Warner about 4 months ago. I just updated my Toshiba XA2 with new firmware and now it won't play after ch. 20 nyg 08-18-07, 06:05 PM I'm assuming you mean TotalHD, if so Warner has postponed those till '08. bunkaroo 08-18-07, 07:34 PM He means the Blu-Ray version with TrueHD that was packed in with the Pioneer player. I assume WB will eventually replace the current BD version with it once stock of the original runs out. luigionlsd 08-18-07, 08:25 PM Not that it completely answers your question, but in October, Warner is releasing non-combo versions of many of their previously combo-only HD titles (Superman Returns, Departed, etc.), which you may be able to get them to swap your current combo disc for... WB hasn't said anything regarding a retail release of the TrueHD Blu-ray copy, sadly! Slim GoodBooty 08-18-07, 08:32 PM I have the TrueHD BD that hasn't been opened. The movie sucks so bad, that better audio isn't going to save it. WB hasn't said anything regarding a retail release of the TrueHD Blu-ray copy, sadly! I might pick up the non-combo in October. I still wish the TrueHD Blu-ray copy gets announced. JackBauer24 08-19-07, 11:59 AM Me too been looking forward for this one. GamerGuyX 08-19-07, 12:11 PM We would never of had this problem if it wasn't for Warner. If they would of made all there releases equal like they said they would this wouldn't be an issue. rwduke 08-19-07, 12:45 PM From what I understand, Warner has a vested interest in HD DVD succeeding, because they get royalties (hold some patents for it) off every one sold. If that is true, I think that would help explain their less than neutral position. Warner needs to start doing separate encodes and they need to release the remaining HD-DVD exclusive titles like they said they would. Johnsteph10 08-19-07, 02:47 PM I have the TrueHD BD that hasn't been opened. The movie sucks so bad, that better audio isn't going to save it. :D Dan Hitchman 08-20-07, 12:47 AM Yeah, better audio and even a much better transfer (it needs it!) would not save this well intentioned turkey. None of the actors had spark and chemistry like Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Gene Hackman, and Jackie Cooper as Perry White! Superman: The Movie is the one that needs a really, really good transfer and 24 bit lossless re-mastered audio. I wouldn't even mind the new 5.1 mix so much if they brought Williams' score back to being front and center rather than drowned out by the sound effects. And I'd still love to see a final cut of Superman 2 rather than the patch work of the Donner Cut (I think a lot was driven by how much Donner had to take out of Lester's good material to get sole credit this time) and the hack work of Lester. Between the two versions (and some good sequences that only made it to the ABC extended cut airing) there has got to be a fully rendered story that makes some sense. Dan Kingram 08-20-07, 12:54 AM :D:D:D DaveFi 08-20-07, 01:05 AM Come on people, if you don't like the movie then keep it to yourselves. That's not what the OP is talking about. I for one, and I'm sure plenty of other of people like the movie and am interested in the topic and don't want other people coming in here and crapping all over it. Dave Mack 08-20-07, 02:47 AM yep. what's with all the threadcraps? Is this AVS or IGN...? AaronSCH 08-20-07, 12:43 PM In my opinion, "Superman Returns" was a wonderful if flawed reboot of the beloved character. After reading about all the lame ideas that were considered, I am grateful that Bryan Singer used the first two films as his inspiration and model. I don't think anyone else could have produced a better film. I also doubt that any other actor could have embodied the spirit of Christopher Reeve better than Brandon Routh. His likeness and grace were uncanny. And nobody can deny that Kevin Spacey made a ferocious Lex Luthor. |
