View Full Version : Line above my screen!
Shoujiki 08-19-07, 04:49 AM Ok guys, got a little thing here, just wondering what it is!.
I have this line of light above my screen. The picture itself is all setup within my screen confines, but theres this niggly light that i can't work out what it is!. Blanking adjustment is all setup correctly to the screen edges, but it won't rid this line. If i look into the rasters of the PJ, each color has the line at the bottom. I read that sometimes this occours due to incorrect VSHIFT adjustment, but i'm not sure what that means, and my green lense is perfectly centered in the screen center..
Thanks
Mark_A_W 08-19-07, 05:27 AM Sounds like the AKB line.
What projector is it?
Shoujiki 08-19-07, 05:56 AM It's a Sony 1272QM .. Whats an AKB line?
Shoujiki 08-19-07, 06:04 AM Ok did some searching and found this thread with a pic of exactly what it looks like!

So, any way to rid it? What does AKB mean exactly and what is it?
Mark_A_W 08-19-07, 06:17 AM It's part of the normal operation of the projector.
It's the Automatic Cathode (K) Bias line.
It can be disabled, but a 1272 is supposed to have it running. Do some searching.
black tape on the tube face.
Shoujiki 08-19-07, 05:38 PM Mmm, i don't think i want to stick anything to the tube faces :P...Goodness knows what it would do to them over time!
After doing some research last night, theres no real way of turning it off and retaining a good picture on the Sony's. Apparently they don't respond well and have to be all recalibrated to get a decent picture. So, i shall leave it !
Thanks for the help guys! Much appreciated.
It's just a glass plate over the tube, the tape won't hurt.
Some use black paint.
Mark_A_W 08-19-07, 09:14 PM Tape will be fine.
garyfritz 08-20-07, 10:16 AM Too bad there's not a simple solution like that for a G70. I don't think tape on the C-element would work very well...
Clarence 08-20-07, 11:05 AM Too bad there's not a simple solution like that for a G70.Cliff was always complaining about that when he had a G70. Newer versions of the G70 firmware allow you to disable it.
FWIW, I think they finally got it right with the G90... the AKB does whatever it needs to do, then the line automatically goes away 10 minutes after power up.
garyfritz 08-20-07, 11:11 AM I've got the newer firmware, but if you disable it the white balance & etc gets kinda wonky. Or so it seems as I'm learning my way around it. Yeah, the G90's solution makes a lot more sense.

Hey Clarence,
I think it disappears after 20 min on the G90. In any case do you have your G90 set up with the AKB on or off?
The other cure would be to use some black felt above the screen.
I can still see the line even on my black wall behind the screen. I'm thinking the black tape on the glass is just the ticket. I know I'll never use the projector that far outside the 16:9 area, and probably nobody else will, either. So, who cares? It's probably on the green tube that's noticeable, anyway. Black tape, here I come...
If you were super-anal and didn't want to stick tape on, you could probably cut a piece of black paper or paper w/black felt on it and just tape it in place out on the edge of the tube.

Shoujiki 08-20-07, 05:16 PM Well before I go removing lenses and all, i'll wait until my valance curtain goes up above the screen, being dark I prolly won't notice it at all...we shall see, failing that, I like the idea of the paper/felt..i could just slip it in front of the C element.
"just slip it in front of the C element."
There is no C element on a vph 1272,,
Shoujiki 08-20-07, 07:52 PM Argh haha..threw me off when the person ^^ said C element. Mean the glass lense hehe.
