Looks like 5 games a week.As previously stated, 5 or 6 per week.
sbarrier 08-19-07, 04:22 PM Houston @ Carolina in week 2. Maybe David Carr will be starting then.
Kevin12586 08-19-07, 05:45 PM Houston @ Carolina in week 2. Maybe David Carr will be starting then.
I think it will be a few weeks before Carr is starting, but it would be nice to see him beat his old team :D
risk235 08-19-07, 06:02 PM Houston @ Carolina in week 2. Maybe David Carr will be starting then.
He will probably do better with better pass protection. I think Dom Capers and Charlie Casserly screwed us with some of players they signed or picked up in the draft (cough Mario Willams cough)
Jets in HD!!
That's all I care about. :)
FreeBaGeL 08-19-07, 08:10 PM Lol....David Carr is not starting without a Delhomme injury.
Droford 08-19-07, 11:20 PM Jets in HD!!
I guess seeing them lose in hd is better than seeing them lose in SD.
katana99 08-20-07, 01:45 AM Nice to see the march to a completely HD NFL coming to a close.
I noticed that CBS apparently has the transponder space to broadcast 5 games simultaneously in HD (Week 1, 1pm). Has the technical hurdle limiting CBS to two HD games during the same time slot been surpassed? I searched the forum, but I couldn't find the answer.
Kevin12586 08-20-07, 08:32 AM I guess seeing them lose in hd is better than seeing them lose in SD.
Exactly :D:D:D
Has the technical hurdle limiting CBS to two HD games during the same time slot been surpassed?
It obviously has since they are doing 5 HD games at the same time.
Blitz68 08-20-07, 08:56 AM Damn the Browns suck... can't get the Bengals in HD because of how bad they suck.
We (Steelers) play them in HD. I guess it depends on who they are playing...lol
jefbal99 08-20-07, 09:01 AM It obviously has since there are doing 5 HD games at the same time.
I disagree, CBS could be renting transponder space on somebody else's bird
I disagree, CBS could be renting transponder space on somebody else's bird
:confused:So what? If they are doing 5 HD games at once then there is no technical limitation allowing them to only do 2 games at once, right?

That was not the posters question, it was:
Has the technical hurdle limiting CBS to two HD games during the same time slot been surpassed?
CBS could still be limited to only two games on their own birds and be renting the space on other birds. If they are using other birds, then the technical limitation still exists, but they have a viable workaround in place.
snowcat 08-20-07, 11:48 AM I am disappointed that the Titans-Jags game is the only one not in HD in week one. :(
Hopefully the Titans will get a lot more HD love than they have in previous years. Vince Young is a popular player now, and I think more people will want to see him in HD.
CPanther95 08-20-07, 12:12 PM I am disappointed that the Titans-Jags game is the only one not in HD in week one. :(
I'm glad it is the only one. More SD games is bad. :)

CBS doesn't own any of the satellites, they are all leased. The previous limitation was at the Broadcast Center in NYC.
It doesn't really matter how many people want to see any player, it only matters how many people will be given the opportunity by CBS to see him.
Some regional telecasts go to as little as three per cent of the national audience.

Looks like everything past week 2 is in SD :D

Thanks for the info :)

Browns > Bengals
Brady Quinn ftw.
Digger16309 08-20-07, 09:33 PM Uh-oh. Does this answer the outstanding question about how many HD games D* can show in a week?
The latest ads say "up to 12" but their channel assignments don't agree.
5 for CBS and 6 for FOX in Week 1 =11.
According to a recent D* e-mail I received...
699: Weekly Game Schedules
701: Player Tracker
702: Game Mix
703: Red Zone Channel (SD)
704 – 717: Games (SD)
718: Red Zone Channel (HD)
719 – 727: Games (HD)
728 – 729: Shortcuts
That's 14 channels assigned to games in SD but only 9 channels assigned to games in HD.
That's 14 channels assigned to games in SD but only 9 channels assigned to games in HD.
There's a very good chance at least 2 games will be over before 4:15, which will free up room for those last 2 HD games.

There is a much better chance that D* will not flip the switch and we will miss the first half of a late game or two in HD more weeks than not.
Without the channels mapped before the games start, I think it could get very very messy in the 4:00-5:00 hour each Sunday.
Using Week 1 as an example, Den/Buf at 1pm is mapped to 719. NE/Jet at 4:15 is mapped to the same channel. The first game goes to OT - long into OT. We miss the entire 1st quarter of the latter game in HD.
There are numerous NFL games that last longer than 3 hours and 15 min even without OT.
It's scenarios such as this why D* has not mapped multiple games to a single channel in past years.
Using Week 1 as an example, Den/Buf at 1pm is mapped to 719. Jet/Bal at 4:15 is mapped to the same channel.
DEN @ BUF is Week 1, but NYJ @ BAL is Week 2.
Limitations include the amount of HD broadcast trucks out there. Growing by leaps and bounds ... and soon comes the NHL and NBA.
Digger16309 08-21-07, 06:29 AM DEN @ BUF is Week 1, but NYJ @ BAL is Week 2.
So sue me. I edited it. The concept remains the same despite my original typo.

Browns-Steelers in HD.
Two teams with 12 wins between them?
Ten-Jack would be a better game to show in HD. At least each of them have a chance to make the playoffs this year. :p:D
McDonoughDawg 08-21-07, 09:40 AM Honestly, why can Fox deliver HD for ALL their games, yet CBS cannot? What is their excuse? Why would the NFL put up with this?

I thought Fox delivered almost all their games in HD. Remember they have Fox Widescreen for the non-HD games. Too bad CBS can't do widescreen for their SD games.

Thats correct.Unless something has changed for this season FOX does 6 games a week in HD.
If I understand correctly CBS will be doing 5 games during doubleheader weeks and 6 games on non doubleheader weeks, except for week 1 because of US Open coverage. If that is correct that will mean 16 out CBS' 107 games will be in SD. FOX, if they still do 6 a week will have 8 SD games. Some of this could change because of flex scheduling. However, if things hold true as they are now it will mean week 15 will see every game being produced in HD, a first for the NFL. The previous high was week 12 last year with 14 of the 16 games in HD, however, that is the week of Thanksgiving so there is also an extra HD game that week.
Guys.... the limitations right now is NOT the amount of available trucks.... not at all....
It's the main broadcast production studios for each network....
CBS spent a lot of money to go HD very early, in 1998 (waaaaaaay before Fox) - and it was a hugely expensive endeavor to be able to handle 3 at one time - which remained the case for a number of years. (Yes - I believe they did at least initially plan ahead and set up to handle more than they were doing at the start... which was probably 1 game a week.... give them credit for that.) It's not like you can just add a game on top of the existing max... the entire studio needed to be replaced with one that could handle more simultaneous HD productions being fed to them and needing to be distributed regionally... which has finally happened
Fox waited (as they had used widescreen-SD for everything until 2004!) - so when they went HD - the available technology for their broadcast center was able to handle more games... but they are stuck at six for a little while (and remember... not necessarily an "equal" six.... as we have seen a disparity in quality in various games at any given time... although we don't know for sure that they are doing anything on purpose....)
The problem is also people now jumping on the HD bandwagon in the last year or so and expecting everything to be HD since its so "cheap"... not realizing that HD has been around for ~10 years, and a lot of money was put into starting HD broadcasts....
Since Fox started so much later... but before the majority of people now with HD would've noticed... people praise them and bash CBS...
Looks like week 1 will have 6 games in HD. They may not all be on the same day, but there will in fact be 6. :)

NBC has the Thursday night opening game. I really think you are confused

The only game not broadcast in HD in Week 1 will be Tennessee/Jacksonville.
There will be a total of 15 HD games in Week 1, which include 11 on Sunday afternoon, 1 Thursday night, 1 Sunday night, and 2 Monday night.
How do you get 6?

I remember Fox getting ripped to pieces on this board not to long ago because of no HD. CBS was always being praised for their efforts in being out in front on Hd boy how the tables have turned. I have to say though by CBS going HD when they did brought me to their network to watch shows I never would have watched if not for the fact they were in HD.
Mark Vidonic 08-21-07, 11:25 PM Each feed needs a small control room (really like a master control switcher) to integrate studio, commercials, etc. This was the holdup for having more than 2 per week, as CBS' Broadcast Center wasn't equipped to do that on the scale of Fox.
Is it too early for the maps?
Is it too early for the maps?
Yep, regional assignments are not finalized until the week of the games. Check back on the Tuesday or Wednesday before the game.

dc10forlife 09-06-07, 04:35 PM LOL ... the browns really do stink. Better hope your team doesn't play them on CBS regional coverage b/c it won't be in HD.

I'm sure the fact that Raiders have trouble selling out, which then removes the home team TV market, had something to due with the decision. Same reason the Cardinals usually end up as the odd team out on Fox for HD.
chiplatham 09-06-07, 04:48 PM Houston @ Carolina in week 2. Maybe David Carr will be starting then.
you must not be a panther fan! david carr will not start unless jake gets hurt...and that would be a very bad thing. but neither will do well unless the running game gets cranking and another receiver steps up to the plate.
you can blame jake all you want, but when you can't run the ball and only have one receiver to throw to, it doesn't matter if you qb's name name is peyton.
