good news indeed.

Turning on the projector is one of the few things I do not like about my setup. I have the MX-600 and love the feel of it.

So can I just borrow anyone’s harmony to do this? I also have an old Pronto sitting around, first generation. I forgot how to use it, but can a pronto use that attached file?

Nice job CZ!

Don't bother to borrow a Harmony! Just download the file I attached in that link and import it with your MX editor! :)

No more holding down the button for two seconds! Just "click" and there you go! :) :)

I don't know anything about Pronto's, sorry.

I have the 600 which is not programable via the computer so I will need to learn the code.

Bummer.

Well, I took a $40 loss on the Harmony I bought to do all this with. I paid something like $105 on ebay, then when I got it it didn't work quite right. The lights wouldn't auto-turn-on as easily as it should. So naturaly I had to mention this when I flipped it a week later on ebay. And it only sold for $66 or so.

The funny thing is that as soon as the ebay auction closed, the stupid auto-light is suddenly working perfectly now.

You may not need the Harmony 880 I bought though. Could be that the less expensive Harmony's do the single-click thing for the marquee also? Could be worth checking out the forums at www.remotecentral.com for this info, if anyone here is on a budget.

Eddie,

Harmony's website used to have a "Test Drive" feature, where you could register, log in, pick a model of remote and then go through the software like you were setting up your system. That enables you to see if your HT equipment is supported or not. But to the best of my knowledge, there is pretty much a single equipment database for all the "online programmable" models.

My 2 cents

Hey CZ, I must be missing something, what was your original problem? I've been programming MX-700, 8xx, 9xx and MX-3000 URC remotes for the Marquee for a few years now with no problem. What were you trying to do?

The issue is when you "learn" the standby command from the original remote it takes a 2 second burst. My MX-600 works, but very poorly with the learned commands.

What CZ is saying (I think) is there is a set of discrete on/off codes that will work and do not require the 2 second burst.

I did look at Remote Central last night and found some discreet codes for the pronto that Guy Ku put on years ago, I will have to dust off the old pronto and give it a try.

Otherwise, CZ could I send my remote to you to learn the codes?

Although I used discreet codes, if that was a problem, I believe you can program in a delay to increase the pulse time, since you might need that in a macro that's performing a number of functions at the same time.

Turns out that Guy Kuo put out the discreet codes for the pronto 7 years ago, since I now use the mx-600 I never would have looked. So thanks. I uploaded them into the pronto and learned them on the mx-600.

One observation, the emitters on the Pronto are so much stronger then the home theater master it is not even close. With the HT Master I can not bounce it off the screen and the Pronto has no problem bouncing it. The MX-600 has an RF extender so I can work around it, but still - Wow what a difference.

I am used to the HT master but the pronto sure was a great remote when it came out (I have one of the early ones, ts1000).

Wait, Guy posted discrete codes that power the Marquee on/off WITHOUT the 2-second pulse? Or just separate On/Off that still require 2-second pulse? If they don't require the long pulse, I can convert the pronto codes for my remote. My remote can't correctly do the 2-second transmission.

Seems instant to me.

Hm. I tried using what I think is a newer version of Guy's CCF file and had only partial success with my JP1 remote. Not sure I tried the discrete power on/off codes, though, I might have just tried the generic POWER code. Next time I get around to reprogramming the remote (I have to re-learn the crazy tools every time I do it), I'll try those discrete codes. Thanks for pointing that out!

I'd forgotten to add the discrete codes for standbye to the earlier file. The Harmony has a code for standby-on and another for standby-off. This is even better than the single standby button on the factory marquee remote!

I also went ahead and added every other used button on the marquee remote.

And yes, this is for the discrete on, off, standby-on, standby-off buttons! No having to press and hold down for two seconds, or having to create timed macro's! :D
I like the discrete standby because it lets me create a macro that with a single click of a button, my projector goes into standby, the DVR is powered off, and the a/v receiver tunes into a radio station for easy listening with the projector blanked out! :)

Btw I never had luck with the Guy K files with my old Pronto 1000, but I may have just been using the wrong files?

Try it again the discrete power on and off work perfect for me. It should be no different for the JPI.

It is important to note that he put both High and Low frequency signals in the program. I am not at home right now and do not remember which one is right but only one of them work.

Eddie,

So now that you seem to be getting more comfortable with the Harmony remote, do you still prefer the URC?

If so, why?

I only ever had the MX-500 in that line and I quickly learned to like the PC programming that I can do with the Harmony. But I know you can program your MX-700 (?) on your PC, so I'm interested in what other differences you see.

Just wondering.

I've got the MX-850 and am not familiar with what the 700 is capable of?

I just like the MX-850 because I can do anything I want to with it. It is soooo flexible!
It's only downside is the crappy LCD screen with five character words. :(

Plus it's a very heavy duty remote. I could drop it out a second story window and it wouldn't even get scratched (I haven't tried this yet).

I've got an offer to buy it but I'm having second thoughts. But I really want an MX-950, but I'm definately getting comfy again with the 850.

The Harmony was by far easier to set up out of the box and get great results, but I just didn't see the potential of the MX-850 in it. It seemed too limited. And I was afraid to drop it while walking to the fridge because it seems like it will break very easy? I don't know.
