View Full Version : 3 New SKUS - Xbox Core "souped up"
byronmhome 08-20-07, 09:13 AM http://cache.kotaku.com/assets/resources/2007/08/new360s.jpg
Now you have:
Xbox 360: Arcade "Just Play!"
Xbox 360 "Go Pro"
Xbox 360: Elite "Go Big"
Just to summarise, Xbox 360 Arcade SKU now includes:
256MB Memory Card
Wireless Controller
5 free XBLA Games
Apparently the new 360 Arcade includes HDMI as well, there will be only 1 revision of motherboard in production. This pretty much gives the wii a run for its money.
From a marketing POV, that is a brilliant move.
macintoshse 08-20-07, 09:38 AM So where did you find this information
fjtorres 08-20-07, 09:38 AM no 30-day gold trial, no headset on Core.
Controller goes to wireless.
So its a full rebalancing of the product line.
byronmhome 08-20-07, 10:03 AM Info was published on several forums and kotaku.
Mike LS 08-20-07, 10:07 AM Sounds like good move, but it seems like the memory card you get with the core would be totally full out of the box with 5 arcade games on it. What to keep, what to delete to make room for game saves?
This was an announcement for Europe, to coincide with the price drop that is happening on Friday.
But I'm certain that the Arcade version will replace the Core version in the US. In fact, I figured that a new SKU would replace the Core as soon as I saw Best Buy discontinuing the sucker.
Mike LS, not all Arcade games are 50MB. Some are much smaller. But yeah, there might be room for 1 or 2 more games on the 256MB card. Either way, it looks good from a packaging standpoint!
macintoshse 08-20-07, 10:18 AM Sounds like a great deal to me for people who just want to play games and are not into LIVE. Sony better step to plate or it's going to be a very long Christmas season.
krimson 08-20-07, 10:19 AM I noticed the "finish" is different on the pro and arcade versions. What is a "silver" finish?

I think it is just that the disc tray is silver on the Pro, like the Premium's. The Arcade maintains the white tray of the Core.
R. Nilla 08-20-07, 10:33 AM This picture (http://gamernode.com/upload/Article%20Image/arcade1187607239.jpg) makes it look pretty fake (due to the poor appearance of the graphics, which look they they were edited in MS Paint), but here's to hoping this is true. I'd like to get an HDMI-enabled XBOX without having to buy another Premium or an Elite.
byronmhome 08-20-07, 10:36 AM Yeah, these are europe initially.. US has lots of pack ins this year i'm sure to move inventories so i wouldn't be surprised if we see these next year.

Oh right, forgot that the core didn't have that.
jagouar 08-20-07, 10:54 AM yeah it would be smart to keep the current finishes.... bringing out a "silver" version would be a huge mistake imo with all of the accessories they have.
OnlookerDelay 08-20-07, 11:48 AM So where did you find this information
I saw it here: http://http://gamernode.com/News/3761-Goodbye-Core-360-helloXbox-Arcade/index.html (http://gamernode.com/News/3761-Goodbye-Core-360-helloXbox-Arcade/index.html)
Of course the pixel people are already calling it a photoshop fake ;)

Maybe the 5 games come on a DVD such as that Unplugged Arcade disc that is available. That would leave the memory card empty.

Possibly. I didn't consider that.
the red worm 08-20-07, 03:19 PM and also remember a 256mb card won't hold a full 256mb
I know my 64mb card is maxed at like 51mb
formulanerd 08-20-07, 04:07 PM why not hand out a blank card with an SD slot and let the user get whatever they want?
oh yea, cause then the customer would get exactly what they want, and pay less than retail while they're at it.
fjtorres 08-20-07, 08:45 PM Kotaku claims verification from a source within MS marketing:
http://kotaku.com/gaming/rumor/new-360-core-coming-to-us-this-holiday-291506.php
Its plausible enough but the Arcade Tag in the pic looks odd.
The bundled games start with Pac-Man and UNO.
Suspect GEOMETRY WARS and HEXIC will be in there, maybe Aegis Wing.
Interesting move...
