View Full Version : Can't get rid of that HDMI error!

I bought an HDMI card from Moome back in February but I never really got a chance to use it. I tested it on my old G70 a couple of times and it seemed to work ok. I did get the HDMI error message then but it used to go away after powering the PJ off/on. Now I'm setting up my new G90 and I just can't get this card to work! I have the Toshiba A1 player and the card is on input C of the G90. I get a picture while the player is starting up (the HD-DVD logo onscreen) but once the HD-DVD starts to play I get the HDMI error! No matter what I do I can't get this thing to play. I have tried every possible power sequence always with the same result.

Could this have to do with this EDID chip you guys keep talking about? I must confess I'm not up to date with the latest news about this card. Is there something wrong with my old card?

I no longer have my HD-A1 (I'm now just using the xbox for hddvd and ps3 for bd), but when I had the A1, it worked fine with the moome card in my G90.

Make sure the projector (and thus the moome card) is on before you turn on the HD-A1 so it can make the hdmi handshake.

I used to leave my HD-A1 on all the time to cut the ridiculous power-up boot-up eject time in half. But I only saw the HDMI error a couple of times... cycling power on the HDDVD player while the projector was on would always clear it.

Or if that doesn't work, try lowering the resolution (maybe to 480p?) and the see if you can jump up to 720p or 1080i once the HDDVD is playing.

Yes, I made sure of that.

Cycled power numerous times to no avail.

Ok, I'll try this one tonight but if I have to do that every time I want to play a DVD I'm getting rid of this card.

Like I said, my card was one of the earlier ones (February 07). Could that have something to do with it?

I have the Toshiba XA2 with my G90 and it works well with 1080p via hdmi. I do have it on input B but that should not matter.

I had to get my EDID updated for it to work with 1080p output from the Toshiba hdmi. I originally bought my card around January 2007. My problem was different that yours as, if I recall correctly, I could still get 1080i etc but not 1080p (do not recall 100%). I sent it back to moome to update (I also got him to add gamma/remote control etc. to get it up to date with latest card). Alternatively he will send you the new EDID chip for a nominal shipping charge if you want to solder it yourself.

Also make sure your A1 has the latest firmware in it. Although I do not think that will make a difference it is worth a try.

Do you still get the same error when trying to output 1080i?

1080i is all i'm trying to output. The A1 doesn't do 1080p. I will try 480p and 720p tonight when I get home.

Hey Vruiz
Your saying if you bought this card from Moome in Feb 07 then it won't be the new HDMI card. It has to be the DVI card.(unless you just received it lately as Moome has only been shipping the new HDMI cards in the past several weeks)
Based on that i have to assume your using a DVI to HDMI adapter in your signal chain to your PJ if its displaying an HDMI error code. Try getting rid of that adapter by using a DVI to HDMI cable(Bluejeans or Monoprice) There's been a few people reporting problems using an adapter. Also your not telling us how long that cable is either.
Just my thoughts. It may well be the edid chip but if your not an expert at soldering or don't wont' to go thru the hassle of finding someone to do it for you with no guarantee it will solve your problem then you might want to Ebay that DVI card and get one of Moomes new HDMI cards with gamma.
I've never had a problem with either of Moomes cards on my Marquee with my New A2 or with my original A1(also worked fine with my Denon 3910 and my trusty Momitsu!)

I might have made a mistake in my previous post cause i have Marquees on my brain!!!
I just realized that Moome did ship the new Sony HDMI cards before the Marquee ones.
It may well be the Edid as Frank's suggesting but its still important that your cable isn't way too long or that your using a DVI cable with adapters.

Yes, the Sony HDMI cards did ship at the beginning of the year.

Just to be clear, isn't the new EDID chip just to enable 1080p? Or does it also help with the handshake?

My HDMI cable is 30' long, although I don't really need it to be that long anymore. My first installation mock-up had a 25' run from the equipment rack to the PJ, but later on I decided to move it closer. The rack is now only 15' or so away. Is the length really that important? I thought that was for DVI not HDMI.

Cable length is more important for DVI but you can still run into problems with a thin gauge cable over a long run. If your cable is between 24 to 28 gauge(AWG) you should be fine but from what you said you could cut that run in half.
Maybe you could check out Curts site as there was a fairly detailed thread on these cards as well as the Marquee version. You might find some helpfull tips there.

The HDMI cable is AWG28.

Vic, what firmware are you running in that A1? I seem to recall some past versions having worse problems than others with the handshake. I think they're up to 2.3 now (can't recall exactly).

what Matt said. Check that you have the latest firmware for the A1 and keep your cable length as short as possible. If you still have problems the card will need to be flashed to update the EDID.

I think the guy that sold it to me said it had 2.0. How do you check that?
