View Full Version : Replace fans with A/C on Cine9 ?

My cine9 is getting loussy (especially comparing with new digitals and when a high resolution is sellected) and I am trying to find a way to get rid of the noise coming from the fans.
I can have a split A/C working only for the projector constantly in a low temp, ie 70 Fahr. The thing is that if I just unplug the fans from the chasis the projector will refuse to turn on as Barcos controls their operation and speed.
But what if I could for example sold a resistor between the fans power cables or something similar to fool the projectors control, shouldnt that work?
Have any one done anything similar on barcos?

I have alrady replaced the fans with quieter, with some improvement but comparing with todays standards is barely acceptable especailly in a dedicated and sound treated room.

Any help?

i have a better solution for you

emeil me at jrhemmabio@hotmail.com and i will send photos of the thing that makes your cine9 almost 100% silent,ok

have one on the shell ready

Unless you have ducted air (not a split) drawn directly through the PJ (and then only VERY carefully) you should not consider disabling fans. Projector electronics will have localized "hot spots" which are very much warmer than ambient, and convection cooling is just not enough.

That said, I'll take that Cine9 off of your hands for the cost of shipping to the USA! ;)

The cine9 is arguably the best projector out there! Keep it and Build a A hush box for it. I wish i had your PJ ! Se Zilevo vre !!!!!

do you have a Cine9 or a Reality 909?

If you have a Reality 909, then it should be possible to mod the fans, or add a circuit that allows them to run at slower RPM.

Cine9 has variable speed fans (and some shut down complete iirc), and should be very quiet, whereas all fans in a Re909 run at full speed all the time, making it a very loud PJ.

Keep your thoughts clean...
I dont intent to get a divorce with this magnificent baby....

I just want to make "her" quiter, talk less, show more....u know what I mean, "patrioti". Min zileueis...palepse to...Ton perimena kairo kai molis ton vrika sto diktio den ton afina na figei me tipota.

kschmit2,
its a cinemax to be precise.
Well it is not that quiet as most believe, certainly is not a 1292 but it gets pretty loud in hi rez. Its not temp controlled, its rez controled. When the rez changes in high the fans are spinning and the pj gets loud. When in low rez then the fans go in the low speed. I have noticed just 2 speeds.

I have thought it a lot.
I will enclose the pj all around in clear fiber glass and on its back side I will have the a/c moynted in same level. The enclosed space will get much of the noise and the ac on the back will keep temp low.

But what can I do to fool the pj and completely shut off the fans?

Sorry this seems wrong............

NONE of the 909s I have here run like that.

Well, the CineMax (later had to be re-labeled to Cine9) shouldn't be all that loud. At least the ones I have seen in person were very quiet (albeit in HUGE theaters).

mad,
did you get a later firmware for them?

Guys its loud....35 db or so for todays standards in not quiet.

No one has any solution on this?
Never performed anything similar?

I dont want to lower down the noise. I want to stop the fans. What "current" barco is checking and is understands that the fans are working?
A resistance couldnt work the same?

I think if you stop the fans you'll ruin you beloved Barco dont do it!!!!!!!

build a hushbox for it and any ways you'll still hear the rush or air from the air conditioner. only dwins dont have fans, and there no where near the pic quality of you beast of a barco !

The fans in the 909's are servo controlled, therefore do not use resistors to slow them down.

The center fan is for the horizontal deflection circuit only. It is temp controlled, and so are the outer two, but they should always be on.

The fans in the 909 should not be running at high speeds. They are 12 volt fans that are operating at far lower voltage when not temp. forced.

Remove RGB connections from the unit. With a cold start-up, let me know which fans turn on. And if possible, put a meter test probe on either one of the outer fans, to measure the fans voltage.

As others have mentioned, removing the fans is a no-no. It's that the A/C couldn't provide cool air, but the fact that A/C can't produce any static pressure like fans can to really move a lot of air over certain (much needed) areas.

Keep the fans, build a hushbox, and make sure to vent out the hot air using some sort of remotely placed duct fan or something. This is what I do. Keeps my Cine8 cooler than no hushbox at all and it's very quiet with the hushbox.

The 909 unit is very noisy and this is one of the large design flaws.

At 1080p its like a jet engine. I have sold a lot and have to modify all of them.

The middle fan should only come on when its warm if its on all the time the Horz fan module is shorted.

Also the two outer fans will need a resistor soldered in series with them.

I use a 20 ohm 3-5 w.

This reduces the noise and works well. The 1209 and 1209s units are very quiet , sometimes when people try to make improvements to designs they forget home theater customers. The 909 was used more for simulation where the box they were in was not vented that well.
