View Full Version : We need a stunt to show support...
xolan99 08-20-07, 03:23 PM Remember how Jericho fans sent nuts to CBS to get them to change their minds about cancelling Jericho?
We need a stunt...cause clearly fans were able to sway CBS (also a Viacom owned property) to change their mind...
Any ideas? Sending them blue chips or something?
dildatonr 08-20-07, 03:25 PM How about buy some BR movies and enjoy them?
is that stunt enough for you?

Nope. I'd say something more attention grabbing :D
kucharsk 08-20-07, 03:31 PM Bid up the thousands of produced, packaged and shipped Blades of Glory BDs on eBay that will now "mysteriously" disappear from the back rooms of retailers everywhere?
briankmonkey 08-20-07, 03:33 PM Consumers are choosing blu-ray 2:1 in software and even great in hardware. Clearly it isn't about what the consumers want when it comes to Paramounts decision.

That will change in the following weeks... :p:D;)

Yes, 2:1 out of the .05% of the total consumer base that has purchased an HD player. The numbers are meaningless at this point....and in fact I would have argued that the only meaning they had was for studios, but clearly that didnt play into this decision! Forget the numbers!

Well your going to have give some specifics then, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks? What will change? Will HD DVD come ahead in the Nielsen numbers in one of those time frames? Anybody can make a broad speculation but that would be about as valuable as throwing bucket of barf on the wall hoping a tiny chunk sticks.
Davio: I agree with you on this one... Might as well toss the numbers aside on this one. If Warner caves in then this battle is going to really get ugly....
Iggster: Come on man pull that "Red Pill" out of your ass..... ;) First off, there is no idea on how badly this will affect sales on both sides of the fence yet, clearly of course it is in favor of HD-DVD... What amazes me is, what
other manufactures are making HD-DVD players, besides Toshiba? I read the Onkyo unit is being made by Toshiba..

When does Transformers come out again?

That's my point, it cleary wasn't about the numbers or consumer preference like The Blockbuster decision. Either political and/or $$$ was probably involved. Regardless a quite loss in future HD content for home theater enthusiasts like myself.

Why is it such a loss though? I have been toying with the idea of buying an HD-DVD player for a long time (in fact it was between my PS3 and Toshiba HD-A2 back when I made the decision). Now this just seals the deal for me. If you love HD movies just buy an HD-DVD player as you've no doubt already invested a lot in Blu. My theory all along has been the PS3 will be your best investment in Blu because at least it will still play games. The HD-DVD player I get will always play the HD movies I buy and upconvert DVD's if it goes bye bye.
Aztec_MC 08-20-07, 03:53 PM So, u think it's smart to pay $300 for an HD-A2 for use as a DVD player, even tho' the PS3 is a better upconverter? And you can get DVD player's for $19. Oh, and the PS3 is 1080p w/ Full Color support.
I don't have any ideas about a stunt, but it would be nice.

It is a loss for me as I have a blu-ray player and would rather not spend more on another player (one that plays an inferior format at that) to watch more movies. I'd rather put that money towards more blu-ray titles. It would be in my best interest as a home theater enthusiast if I had access to all titles on blu-ray. Granted I can still by DVD's and they'll work but I prefer having the best when possible and that is what blu-ray offers.
Granted if I had unlimited desposible income sure I'd have an Denon Blu-ray player and the top of the line HD DVD player as well as a 20k 1080p projector, etc. As you see your theory doesn't work for everybody.
carnivale880 08-20-07, 04:00 PM i really dont understand all the joy over this announcement...the only winner here is Microsoft who has now confused things more and advanced their own agenda to eliminate highdef optical in favor of inferior quality downloads...and i format neutral...what really is upsetting is that in 3 years we are all going to be buying sd dvds again because that is exactly where things are headed...what a disaster.

Indeed, no joy here. Simply means less titles for us, not more. VOD sucks compard to blu-ray or even HD DVD for that matter. I'll go with HD DVD if I have to at one point but it will suck knowing that I could have had.

This is so obvious. We all lose.
Remember, the studios NEED customers. We don't NEED their movies.

Offer them 300 million dollars. That might do the job.
