I'm still waiting for "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" in high definition. Rusty James 08-20-07, 03:56 PM At least they're stepping up and reminding people they're still committed to Blu-ray, which is important to know. Called sacrificing a runner :D seanb61 08-20-07, 04:03 PM Fox and MGM Unveil Blu-Ray Exclusive Worldwide Releases for 2007 Aug 20 at 15:59 29 Titles To Debut Packed With Soon-to-Be-Announced BD Industry 'Firsts' - PLUS - Fox's First TV Title 'PRISON BREAK' FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER And LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD and Other Titles To Debut Day-and-Date on BD/DVD -- Blu-ray Out-Performing HD DVD 2-to-1 At Retail in 2007 -- LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment (TCFHE) today unveiled an aggressive global Blu-ray Disc release strategy including 29 new release and "must-have" catalog titles that runs through the end of the 2007 calendar year. Among the many highlights of the impressive worldwide slate are six day & date BD/DVD new theatrical releases from Fox including the $241 million box-office family favorite FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER and the $335 million box-office action powerhouse LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD, four day & date BD/DVD (U.S. only) new theatrical releases from MGM, 19 'must-have on BD' films from the two studios' libraries, Fox's first-ever TV release on BD - PRISON BREAK -- and Fox's intention to release at least one state-of-the-art title per month featuring numerous BD 'firsts.' The only high-definition packaged media universally supported by the film, music, gaming and computer industries, BD is the #1 selling high-definition packaged media. In fact, on a worldwide basis, BD is averaging nearly 70% market-share per week of all high definition titles sold this year and, in the U.S., it is out-performing HD DVD by a margin of 115%. "Given that Blu-ray has consistently outsold HD DVD all year, and this is the case for any titles released by any studio in both formats, we believe that the time is right for us to accelerate our activities and help convert the nearly 60 million high definition households worldwide into Blu-ray households," noted Mike Dunn, President Worldwide, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. "By the end of this calendar year there will be expansive availability of technically vibrant releases featuring never-before-seen, advanced BD-J interactivity as well as a broad offering of playback devices at attractive prices that will prove to any doubting consumers once and for all that Blu-ray is the only way." "And as Blu-ray continues to grows stronger, it has become survival of the fittest which is most apparent in the retail landscape where our eager and growing global Blu-ray consumer base has caused a shift that is forcing the allocation of more space to the format that is selling the best. And, in many recent instances of note, top retailers in North America are choosing to promote the Blu-ray format exclusively in their stores," continued Dunn. Among the BD industry 'firsts' from the Studios' upcoming global release slate are picture in picture capability, enhanced viewing and surround sound modes with the ability to mix and match picture and sound, direct access to in-movie features through one of the four colored buttons on the BD remote and the most technically vibrant BD-Java interactive multi-player challenge and trivia games to date. The Studios' slate also takes full advantage of BD-Live functionality this fourth quarter. Internet-connected consumers will enjoy unique, title specific "web-enabled" interactive features and games and "web-exclusive" downloadable content with the ability to connect and interact with other broadband BD users worldwide. Cementing its leadership position within the industry - previous BD releases NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM and X-MEN THE LAST STAND rank in the Top 20 best-sellers - the vast majority of the Studios' upcoming global slate will be presented on 50 GB dual-layer discs with advanced BD-J interactivity and feature numerous Blu-ray exclusive high-definition bonus materials that further realizes BD's incredible potential. Consumers will enjoy the superior video and audio elements of AVC encoding and Lossless HD audio on many of the coming titles as well as enhanced and integrated menus, personal scene selections, search indexing, trivia and other title specific games and high-definition bonus materials. Upcoming BD-J features exclusive to priority catalogue titles from Fox and MGM include an "Alien Scavenger Hunt" (INDEPENDENCE DAY) that challenges players to earn points by identifying the correct number of aliens in select scenes to unlock additional bonus features; a "Global Warming Trivia Track" (THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW) where users must correctly answer questions about global warming to keep the Earth's temperature from rising and being destroyed; and a historical and geographical pop-up map (MASTER & COMMANDER) that tracks the location of Captain "Lucky" Jack Aubrey and his enemies. NickFoley 08-20-07, 04:06 PM ebockelman, Mr. & Mrs. Smith is already available on HD DVD. Did more than 100 people buy it? Rusty James 08-20-07, 04:06 PM Woot!! THere it is!!!! Welcome back, Fox. We missed ya. Patsfan123 08-20-07, 04:07 PM Well I'm glad Paramount did this, now we can get some Fox movies. Plus it looks like they are giving them a nice treatment. The ball is finally rolling. JE3146 08-20-07, 04:09 PM Keywords people! They have DATES, and they have this! the vast majority of the Studios' upcoming global slate will be presented on 50 GB dual-layer discs with advanced BD-J interactivity and feature numerous Blu-ray exclusive high-definition bonus materials that further realizes BD's incredible potential. I see 9 titles on that list I'd buy day 1. And that's just a sample :D jaewon 08-20-07, 04:10 PM It's about time Fox!! Time to show Paramount what a huge mistake they just made. Bring out the big guns. khwiggins2 08-20-07, 04:11 PM At least they've finally released something...even if it's only a press release. :) rob316 08-20-07, 04:12 PM Keywords people! They have DATES, and they have this! I see 9 titles on that list I'd buy day 1. And that's just a sample :D So I guess the peopel who bought the older BR players are screwed, they cannot enjoy all the BD-J content. JE3146 08-20-07, 04:14 PM So I guess the peopel who bought the older BR players are screwed, they cannot enjoy all the BD-J content. BD-J was a required spec from day 1. Buzzwords like PiP, BD-Live, etc. Things like those you can worry about. All I'm hearing is advanced BD-J, which can be updated by firmware. mdc3000 08-20-07, 04:14 PM So they just reannounced titles they promised us months ago and then scrapped? Thank God they're getting back into the new releases day and date in time for Live Free or Die Hard, but I'll wait until these are actually on store shelves before I get excited. GizmoDVD 08-20-07, 04:14 PM So I guess the peopel who bought the older BR players are screwed, they cannot enjoy all the BD-J content. Yep, which has been known for some time now. Curious to see how much Prison Break will sell for considering the DVD version has been $20-$25 numerous times. mcrexx 08-20-07, 04:23 PM ABOUT DAMN TIME! MASTER & COMMANDER THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW ROBOCOP I, ROBOT DIE HARD DIE HARD 2: DIE HARDER DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE INDEPENDENCE DAY RONIN These are MINE the DAY the come out! :D Garman 08-20-07, 04:26 PM WTF: Might as well call the BD Software Forum, the Coming out Troll HD-DVD Forum right now... I will remember this, I am pretty laid back on the HD-DVD forum but when Blu-Ray comes out with a counter punch and they might, they also could lay down for the 8 count, I will make sure I am on the HD-DVD board gloating over it.. Geez guys, give it a break.... ;) LOL Slim GoodBooty 08-20-07, 04:27 PM Did more than 100 people buy it?They won't on BD either. Catalog sales are not going to be big until much later in the game and HDDVD seems to do better with them anyway. That being said, there are a couple of things that I will buy on the Fox list. I just hope it's true this time. Slim GoodBooty 08-20-07, 04:28 PM WTF: Might as well call the BD Software Forum, the Coming out Troll HD-DVD Forum right now... Joon TV 08-20-07, 04:30 PM Guys as I keep saying, everyone just relax. Yes, did HD-DVD have a day today, sure they did. They are going to ride the coat tails of it. You have to remember it has been a black hole on the HD-DVD side for many many months. Remember we still have 4 studios exclusive and the 2 that are neutral which will still sell more copies on BD. BD has not let us down to this point, and I guarantee you they will not sit on their hands and we will get some good new within the next month I will say. solo88 08-20-07, 04:34 PM So they just reannounced titles they promised us months ago and then scrapped? Thank God they're getting back into the new releases day and date in time for Live Free or Die Hard, but I'll wait until these are actually on store shelves before I get excited. I don't believe the Die Hard films had ever been announced before, though it seemed inevitable since they rereleased them on DVD for the new movie. I think there are some other surprises there too. And hopefully Robocop is the new collector's edition that is out on DVD this week. I was all bummed about Paramount, but there was only two titles I was hyped to buy, Transformers and Top Gun. There are a hell of a lot more on that Fox list. I love how intricate the press release is. Such a big F U to Microsoft, HD DVD, and Paramount/Dreamworks. Microsoft has awakened a sleeping giant. I was hoping for Alien and Aliens too, since it was rumored that was in the pipe. darkjedi664 08-20-07, 04:38 PM YAY about damn time :D Some great titles to look forward too. Johnsteph10 08-20-07, 04:46 PM Can we have just 1 thread on this, please? Tripjammer 08-20-07, 04:48 PM It is not going to get very interesting. Bluray is now going to explode. Paramount screwed up...all they had to do is go exlusive and now they are going to see bluray explode in sales. solo88 08-20-07, 04:59 PM Nice list of titles, although it pretty sad that it took a studio going HD DVD exclusive to bring Fox back to life. Well, to be fair we'd been hearing "very soon" for the last week or so, as opposed to just "soon" which we'd been hearing for a month or so. The Bits mentioned it just a few days ago that they'd gotten confirmation they'd announce very soon. I'm just wondering...will Microsoft also give all the Star Trek fans money to buy that awesome Season One set? :) They should seriously subsidize that thing. Fox, or people who have "talked" to the people at Fox have been saying "soon" for months. Their announcement was nothing more than a counterstike. It's just a shame that Fox had to be forced out of hiding, it's kind of embarrassing. But I'll take it anyway I can get it. There are TONS of Fox movies that I can't wait to own on BD and I'm really excited about a large chunk of the titles they just announced. Paultje66 08-20-07, 05:07 PM Too bad they region lock everything:( jayrader 08-20-07, 05:15 PM This is why I love the format war. Without the Paramount announcement today who knows how long Fox would have waited around. At least we're getting some results. Garman 08-20-07, 05:24 PM I haven't seen you miss a shot to gloat and troll yet. I think you resemble that remark... I am a Pro Blu-Ray more than I am HD-DVD, I want at least one to win. I do come down on people for posting specific threads that lead to this BS. I however try to refrain from posting them myself. You will rarely ever see me in the HD-DVD bashing the technology. Now you on the other hand, I am not sure about you! ;) Gloat about what, I am a pro Blu-Ray guy in a Blu-Ray forum... Duh..... MikeLindsey 08-20-07, 05:27 PM Did more than 100 people buy it? You've lost Transformers and Shrek, but gained a stellar FOX line-up, you have to look at it like that. Bring it on. kami 08-20-07, 05:49 PM 28 days later was shot with 480p DV cameras...and they're going to try and sell it as high def? Oh my bad...the last 3 minutes of the film was shot on 35mm. lol Die Hard is the big news for me. solo88 08-20-07, 05:52 PM 28 days later was shot with 480p DV cameras...and they're going to try and sell it as high def? Oh my bad...the last 3 minutes of the film was shot on 35mm. lol Die Hard is the big news for me. Yup, I've been saying they need some old man titles, and the Die Hard saga definitely fits that description. I love the Bourne films, but do you think an older burly dude is going to want to watch Matt Damon or Bruce Willis kick ass? And Bruce Willis actually talks. :) jcc 08-20-07, 06:00 PM Some of the thread starters need to learn how to read. There are too many threads with the same topic.
