View Full Version : So do they have any money left for Universal?
theforce8686 08-20-07, 04:13 PM Well weve heard reports all year that HD has paid Universal to stay exclusive and it looks like that might be true. We have also heard, which hasnt really been denied, that Universals contract ends at the end of the year. If this is the case, with HD spending 150 million for Paramount is there gonna be any money left for Universal?
P.S. All speculation and just a topic for discussion.

Slim GoodBooty 08-20-07, 04:24 PM Universal is in it for themselves and the dislike they have for Sony, having been bitten in the butt by them before. They are staying HDDVD, and this actually helps their position.
robbie06 08-20-07, 04:46 PM It could also be said that Sony didn't have the money to get exclusivity from Paramount since it spent it on Fox and Disney :)
I would think that this reinforces Universal's commitment to HDDVD (unfortunately)
It's all just Microsoft trying to kill the HD disc in its entirety so we can be forced to pay to download things, wait, wait, and wait, before it finsihes so we can watch it, then have the hard drive crash and lose it all so we can download it again, and probably pay again.
They can stick it. I want my Blu-ray.

You can backup your iPod songs. You can't back up your Xbox 360 movie purchases.
If I were Universal I'd be looking for a kick back for staying exclusive. If I were them I'd be saying, if they're paying Dreamworks $100m then they should be paying us the same or more (if they're not already).
If Universal went neutral or BD exclusive it probably wouldn't bother HD DVD, Paramount are bigger than Universal right now

Who said that Universal wasn't part of this pay-off in the first place. For all we know MS, Universal and Toshiba got together and split the bill.
steven975 08-20-07, 11:51 PM Microsoft has the money. If Universal starts making Blu noises MS will shut them up.
So far Universal hasn't and in light of a massive offer from the BDA which the result was the BDA being told to pound sand I wouldn't think they're changing a thing.
