Well, before the threads were closed I sent an email to Paramount. This is what I wrote:

"Dear Paramount,

I would just like to join the many HD DVD supporters in extending my deepest appreciation for deciding to support HD DVD exclusively. This is very exciting news to all of us, and we all look forward to viewing your great catalog of both New-and-Catalog releases on the best format available, HD DVD!

Again, thank you for your trusted support of HD DVD."

This is the response I just received:

"Dear Aaron- Thank you for your note and support. We believe that HD DVD is the best choice for experiencing our films. We have some outstanding films coming this fall and we look forward to bringing them to you.

Sincerely- Kelley Avery"

Whether or not this is a form letter, I still think it's great I got a response back so quickly!!

Just thought I'd share...

Sent them a similar letter to help reaffirm in the face of the undoubtable Blu onslaught.

As I'm sure you're hearing tons of flack from the Bluboys, let me congratulate on a wise decision. I agree with your reasons as to why supporting HD-DVD is the way to go (money included).
Higher standalone player sales without the confusion of whether "players" sold actually means potential customers.
Higher software:player attach rates.
Less risk of customers becoming disinterested once the true purpose of their player is finally utilized (gaming).
Better standardized player features (including the interactivity that ethernet affords).
An all-around better user experience.
$150 million :)

Welcome to the red side. Remember, if your blood is red your brain gets oxygen, if it's blue it will just slowly whither and die! ;)

Nice form letter...

It's not a form letter--here's the response I got:

"Dear Tom- I appreciate your vote of confidence. We are thrilled to be bringing our great movies out to families like yours.

Sincerely, Kelley Avery"

Different than the one posted above.

You can send all the letters you want, either for or against, what counts is buying the titles. If you support their move, buy their movies! Money speaks alot louder than a note.

1: Cut a hole in a box.
2: Put your Shrek in that box.
3: Make her open the box.

And that's the way you do it.

I hope your Shrek isn't green.

As for the Paramount emails, it's a nice gesture to show that they are really welcome by HD DVD fans and consumers. Hopefully they get to steppin' on the TV shows. CSI on HD DVD anyone?

Actually, I think they do-- these letters somehow make it to senior management and they keep track of it.

I've been in the healthcare industry close to 8 years and the bulk of it was in operations. I can't recall how many gifts and letters we get from members, providers, etc..These nice gestures always have a way in making it noticed by the VP's and execs.

That rocks! I wonder who beatboy got a e-mail response from. Probably the same source who said Universal is going neutral ;)

sorry man,

I work the IT infrastructure side, been doing it for the last 15 years. This is how all fortune 500 companies set thier email system up.

Two things happen when influxes of emails are detected.

One.

They all get quarantined in a catch all email and then a couple of people get to read them. Those people are not CEO's COO, CIO, CFO, VP, Pres, Senior Management etc. They have WAY to much email to begin with to be innundated with more emails.

The lucky folks are usually the support personnel that get to read and if directed to, reply to those emails. It is a fun job. ;)

Two.

Impersonation.

The person responding has access to the boxes of the person they work for be it the Pres of a branch, CEO, CIO etc. That means that support can reply to the email as said recipient without the reciever knowing. Most of the emails unless official business (and beleive me, CEO and upper management dislike email for official business) are responded to that way.

Pretty ingenious actually ;)
