Anyone picked this up yet?? I heard the movie its self is amazing(95% on rottentomatos), just wondering if the PQ and AQ are as good as the film is??

The film is fantastic. I watched it on DVD. It's not that typical holywood crap action/suspense movie with so many effects that requires BD or HD-DVD to watch.
Just get it and enjoy it.
It's like trying to watch Casablanca (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034583/) on BD. What's the point.

I am really happy to see movies like this on BR, god knows there are enough mindless action movies on the format already...

Superb movie. An absolutely stunningly well directed and acted movie.

Mine is on Amazon.com's slowest delivery truck.

Playback seems to slow down for a second every minute or two on my player. I toggled PCM, DD, subtitles on/off - no change. It only seems to happen with the feature. None of the extras are affected.

My player has the latest firmware and my other discs still play fine?

Has anybody else seen this?

In case I didn't make myself clear, I'm having issues with The Lives of Others BD on the Samsung player. Better to stick to this thread than to start a new one, right?

Yes, SD DVD on PS3 to Sony A2000-significant greenish bias in many scenes.
I've been seeing this on many films recently and can only conclude that it's deliberate on the part of the cinematographers/directors. I also think a lot of people on the display device forums have mistakenly been blaming their tvs.

Jdrouette, on the first rental copy of this movie, I had stuttering and freezing issues, but I blamed it on the new "property of Netflix" stickers that they've started using. I went out and bought a copy of the movie and didn't have any problems, but I'm finding that the Samsung BDP1000 can be quite quirky at times with some discs. I still can't get Seven Years in Tibet to play without freezing in the same spot every time. Maybe try another disc and see if it goes away.

I was planning on renting this but Blockbuster doesnt have the Blu-ray in stock, just the dvd. I hope they are getting it in :|

My copy was a Blu-ray rental from NETFLIX that had the property of NETFLIX sticker attached to it. The movie played flawlessly and I had no greenish tint to the picture. The picture quality was great. I just found out that the Stasi agent who was one of the main characters died of stomach cancer in July of this year. My Blu-ray player is a PS3 using component video out.

And you'll note in the TV spots for THE LIVES OF OTHERS that now they are indicating:

"In Blu-Ray Hi-Def and DVD", rather than "DVD and Blu-Ray Disc".

Education is a good thing, and they are giving BD top-billing...

i got this movie today from blockbuster online...open up the envelope and didnt notice anything...put in my ps3...heard a clicking noise. then it didnt play...hit the eject button and there is a freaking crack...a major crack on the cd where it almost tear it apart.

lucky it didnt damage my ps3!!! i guess it got damage in the mail or someone before me didnt really took care of it.

so i bought it back to the store to exchange it for another dvd movie...little children...a good movie i must say...kate winslate nekid again!!! enuff said.

Thanks for the info, badboi. I exchanged my copy, but unfortunately have the same problem with the second disc. This is the only movie (out of perhaps 12) with which I've had this problem. If your player behaves differently, though, it looks like I'll have a hard time isolating the cause.

The movie is the best I have seen the last year. Saw it at the cinema. Really makes me happy that I did not live in communist country.

Just watched my Netflix copy w/sticker flawlessly on my BDP-S1.

I wonder if the sticker being applied poorly or unevenly creates an issue.

Great film. I love that there is no English dub track available. These actors deserve to have their original performance audible. Top notch performances all around. It's a shame the main actor succumbed to stomach cancer this year.

This is an excellent movie for ADULTS...not a popcorn flick.
PQ is 3/5 and SQ is 4/5...IMO.

I found The Lives of Others to be a fantastic movie. I'm glad that it was rendered in Blu-ray and I had absolutely no playback problems on our PS3. I highly recommend this movie.

Is it region coded? It isnt avaible in germany on BD yet, probably will be released by Buena but dont want to wait.

Awesome movie! Rented it from Netflix but I liked it so much that I'm going to go out and buy it at some point. The PQ is fantastic, so don't worry.
