Yeah, that's gonna go over real well with J6P. If they can't get my $$$ then they're in bad shape. So much for the holiday season.

It sounds like neither format is going anywhere, so it's time for affordable combo players. It would be smart for someone to announce a reasonably priced player - quickly.

I would not be surprised to see the list price of the upcoming Samsung combo player drop before it's released.

Shrek, Bourne, Transformers. Well gee Katherine Heigel or that geek who wanted the sparkly boots in 40 yr old virgin? GO WITH THE LEGGY BLONDE!

Combo players are gonna be the solution to this two-camp nonsense. Watch the prices plummet on those suckers next year (I doubt Samsung is gonna be dropping their price too much before Xmas, since they're not gonna have any competition).

Just go neutral and then you can watch all of the HD movies this fall and winter.

Not this year. We'll see how the war continues next year and then start to see if comb players become more of an option.

Watch the prices plummet on those suckers next year (I doubt Samsung is gonna be dropping their price too much before Xmas, since they're not gonna have any competition).I hear you, but I'm hoping Sammy realizes that they combo player has changed from being something of a luxury to more a necessity for those who want HDM. They would be in position to move a *lot* of units if they lowered the price somewhat.

Just go neutral and then you can watch all of the HD movies this fall and winter. Two players, two HDMI ports, two remotes (I know - universal remotes. I'd rather have a universal player), having to remember (or worse explain) which disc goes in which player, two rack spaces, two power outlets on my power conditioner, on & on it goes. All because the studios wanna play power games.

Two players - I'd rather not, but I certainly don't see myself buying either - or. Not after today.

Shrek or Simpsons-don't care for either .The bigger title is Shrek of course.
Bourne or Die Hard-Bourne.Not even a contest.Better movie and more successful.
Spider Man3 vs Transformers-I'd say both.Pretty equal.
Knocked up or Superbad-Again no contest here, Knocked up by a mile.Again better movie and more successful.

If you're format neutral:

Shrek AND Simpsons
Bourne AND Die Hard
Spiderman 3 AND Transformers
Knocked Up AND Superbad.

Makes it easy. :)

Yep, and format neutral is the way to go.

Yep, and format neutral is the way to go.As long as there are two formats, both formats might die. The masses are *not* going to buy two players. Thanks to MS, Paramount and Dreamworks, combo players appear to be the only shot at mass adoption.

The rumor is that Microsoft wants to kill both formats in favor of downloadable HD. This is certainly a good step in that direction, unfortunately.

Shrek/simpsons = same but Shrek has a much better chance to benefit from HD than the simpsons due to the art style

Bourne 3>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Die Hard 4 but I want Die Hard 1 and 3

Transformers > Spiderman 3. Not even close!

Haven't seen Superbad yet but KnockedUp is a must. Either go format netural or cry on the net. Easy options.

Fox, Disney, and Sony are innocent? They're prolonging the war just as much.

Double standards are fun. :p

All of the above. It's good to be neutral at a time like this. :)

I've got both, so I could get any of these flicks, but for comparison sake:

The Simpsons Movie hands down over Shrek the Turd - one of the worst movies of the year, whereas The Simpsons was hilarious and worthy of seeing multiple times.

The Bourne Ultimatum or Live Free or Die Hard = BOTH. The two best action flicks of the year IMO. Bourne is tense and gets the blood pumping with it's excellent score and in your face visual style, while Die Hard is popcorn fun from start to finish. Two MUST HAVE movies.

Transformers easily trumps Spider-Man 3. Spidey was one of the biggest movie disappointments I've ever had in my life, coming after the brilliance of Spider-man 2 it stings even more.

Knocked Up = Superbad. Both awesome, both crude and both have great rewatchability. I can't wait to add some McLovin' to my collection as well as some Heigl. :)

Sorry that I wasn't clear with my original post.

I wasn't talking about which of those movies you may prefer. Only that the customer looking to adopt either format will be faced with these choices.

It's not pretty. I'm hoping that manufacturers will announce combo players. The sooner the better.

I enjoyed Superbad even more than 40yo V, surprised me. I enjoyed Die Hard more than Bourne.

As for Joe keg belly's preference this is a good (bad) split down the middle.

This man speaks the truth. It's especially easy for BD fans to go neutral since you already bought the expensive player. ;)

How bout Ratatouille instead of Simpsons...after all, Ratatouille will end up having made more money.

Instead, I'll wait for a neutral player at a reasonable price. As most people will who haven't already got one. Combo player announcements should happen soon (or the forthcoming Sammy player will get cheap) and then I'll have what you've already got. Both formats live on (or not) and everybody wins. :D

Awful news! This format war could go on for a long time and it hurts the consumer more than the companies! I was about to call it quits with HD-DVD but Transformers is one I won't want to miss (Shrek also).

So it still puts BD in an advantage situation, since your comparison doesn't have an offsetting title for Pirates 3. Or Ratatouille I guess...though Simpsons isn't quite as potent as Shrek (nor Ratatouille).

The only title that hurt my heart is Transformers... because i just won't buy a player by Toshiba never again.. so.. there's other way but i'am not gonna talk about that here..

If HDM isn't adopted by the masses, it won't survive.

I think when the average customer is faced with buying a machine that won't play [insert movie here], that they'll just walk. When it was only Universal, it seemed plausible that Universal would cave eventually. Now it appears that both formats are here to stay and that neutrality will have to come in the form of combo players.

So is it 100% certain that Transformers will not be on BR? If there ever was a movie that was made for HD it was Transformers. I want HD movies, but I would really like to see both formats fail, because of what the companies have done to the consumers. I should not have to buy 2 players to watch a movie.

Oh don't get me wrong...I completely understand that concern. This does nothing but make the decision harder (or perhaps easier...in that, don't buy either).

Though if that is the effect it has on sales, it could make the PS3 effect more potent, as I don't think this has any real impact on PS3 sales. That's still going to sell what it was going to sell. GTA4 had more negative impact on PS3 sales than this.
