what should be their next move

View Full Version : so what should sony do now? cars 08-20-07, 06:13 PM what should be their next move RScottyL 08-20-07, 06:20 PM I say business as usual..... If they want to go a step further, then they should see if they can help end this format war ASAP, and see if they can pull some more format neutral people to be more Blu-Ray exclusive. As many have speculated, the longer this "war" continues, the more confusing it will be for consumers. JE3146 08-20-07, 06:23 PM Take Fox's huge lineup, Disney's huge lineup, and anything Warner throws into the mix. Couple it with heavily subsidized BD players. Bring that price down to 199$ 150 million could go a long way in subsiziding players. If they lowered prices by 300$, 150,000,000$ would subsidize 500,000 standalone players. That'd put a nice dent in things. RabidRob 08-20-07, 06:24 PM what should be their next move blame microsoft and universal some more? martijua 08-20-07, 06:25 PM They should send an email to Paramount........http://home.satx.rr.com/dannym/rofl.gif AndyHDTV 08-20-07, 06:27 PM I say, they should now focus on keeping Warner, Fox & Disney in their corner. As well as to try and get Warner to be blu-ray exclusive by throwing some $ at them. Announcing a flood of titles from Sony & MGM would help ease concerns. Garman 08-20-07, 06:29 PM They Should buy Universal Studios and maybe the WB.... ;) thuway 08-20-07, 06:48 PM Pay money hand over fist for WB + Universal exclusivity. DVD_sanchez 08-20-07, 06:52 PM Give me 150 Million. RWetmore 08-21-07, 12:01 AM Pay money hand over fist for WB + Universal exclusivity. That may be what it takes to end this freakin thing. ryoohki 08-21-07, 12:03 AM Nothing, concentrate to release quality title like they are since March 2007. Paramount had quite a nice record for Catalog releas.e. witch is quite bummer.. MySassyGirl 08-21-07, 12:05 AM Sell PS3 for $100! = 200,000,000 millions Blu-Ray players in the world.... That will just blow away HD-DVD and their fanboys out of this world....and finish them off. Paramounts and Universal will regret what they have done...fools..just fools. plasmabuyer 08-21-07, 12:27 AM They need to seriously consider a price reduction in the BR disk being sold. Customers cannot sustain paying upwards of $20/movie releases in a format that are quickly becoming mainstream though it will take another couple of years to stabilize. Authoring a DVD v/s BR should now be almost similar though production costs may be a bit more. Sony has been known to sell their PS3 at a loss to make the console successful against the Wii and XBox - why can't they literally GIVE AWAY the BR Disks to us early adopters?? Best way to beat HD-DVD in their game is to play a price-war with them. After the bloodbath one player would emerge and I'm hoping it to be Sony given their deep pockets. chrishicks 08-21-07, 01:05 AM let's all say it now - $99 PS3s. :) tindizzle 08-21-07, 01:08 AM With 1 major neutral studio left, Sony should try to bring Warner over. IMO, that should make things really interesting. mhtom 08-21-07, 01:08 AM Sony needs to get the studios to release movies. All these "exclusive" studios don't seem to be releasing too much "exclusive" stuff. Urza 08-21-07, 01:11 AM With 1 major neutral studio left, Sony should try to bring Warner over. IMO, that should make things really interesting. Difficult. Warner has some kind of patent, or stake, or something in HDDVD, and leans HDDVD anyway. Sony's best bet is to exploit Spielbergs rift with Paramount. His contract ends at the end of the year. They can snag all the films he directed. tindizzle 08-21-07, 01:20 AM Difficult. They can snag all the films he directed. Do you have any info on what Warner has in stake in HD DVD? I agree, Sony should exploit the rift between Spielberg and Paramount. narcopolo 08-21-07, 01:27 AM Take Fox's huge lineup, Disney's huge lineup, and anything Warner throws into the mix. Putting the $ sign in the back of the amount sure looks funny though. Looks like cents, rather than dollars. darinp2 08-21-07, 01:30 AM I do think they need to get player prices down. Probably not the PS3 (other than what is needed to compete in the game market), but standalones. They might have to apologize to their CE partners for dropping prices, but you have to do what you have to do. Kind of like when I said we would find out how much Toshiba wanted to win this thing, given the way they were behind, although I didn't predict them getting Paramount back. I thought they might buy some exclusive window for Transformers on HD DVD, but not accomplish getting as much as they did. When the software was an imbalanced as it was Toshiba had to have lower player prices. But now they don't have to and I think the Blu-ray side needs to figure out a way to at least be close enough for player prices this holiday season. At least within $100. --Darin narcopolo 08-21-07, 01:31 AM Sell PS3 for $100! = 200,000,000 millions Blu-Ray players in the world.... Well couldn't Microsoft sell theirs for $99 then? They don't really need the money. Amiable-Akuma 08-21-07, 01:46 AM Honestly, since the excellent Fox announcement line-up - all Sony has to do, for me, is announce their own somewhat aggressive line-up and it is all well. Don't they own the US rights to Jet Li's "Hero"? That'd be a good start, if you ask me. Re-master "House of Flying Daggers" while you're at it... cwarner62 08-21-07, 01:55 AM what should be their next move Get a deal with Fox and New Line to speed up the releases of Star Wars and LotR and make them both blu-ray exclusives. Evan702 08-21-07, 02:00 AM Well they need to lower the prices of players and titles as well as convince the other Blu-ray player manufacturers to follow suit. I'd also suggest that they make sure that Weinstein goes neutral as has been rumored a time or two. Last but not least, they'd better try sweet talking Universal and/or Warner and have a very large check in their back pocket. Adam_ME 08-21-07, 02:09 AM Get Fox/MGM and Disney to commit to releasing some high profile catalog titles. They're halfway there with the Fox/MGM press release earlier today, although it remains to be seen whether the titles will be bare bones and priced at $40 each.
