View Full Version : Dwin HD700 & Transcanner Price Question
Brian B 08-20-07, 06:19 PM I realize this is not the marketplace, but I'm wondering what the current value would be of an HD700, Transcanner, and ceiling mount with a few hundred hours of use.
Projector is in excellent shape. What is something like this worth and would anyone be interested? I'm in Los Angeles.
Hope this post doesn't break any forum rules...
Thanks,
Brian
guitarman 08-20-07, 07:49 PM Why was it only used a few hundred hours? Pretty old projector for that little use. I'd guess $350 to $600. Might be hard to get the $600. I bought one for $400, just the projector.
I PMed you with some info
It will be intersted to see what they say on here as i bought an HD 700 w/ color filtered lenses for a lot more then 600.00 and it had 900 hours on it.
garyfritz 08-21-07, 11:16 AM And you were tickled pink with it. :) The upgraded lenses definitely add some value to it above a stock HD700.
Brian, I don't think the transcanner is worth much, if anything. You're basically looking at the value of the HD700.
With so little wear I would think it would pull AT LEAST $600. 6-8 months ago I would have said $1000 easy. Now, with the CRT market softening quite a bit, it might be less. You might do better if you wait another month or two. CRT sales always go south during the summer.
Brian B 08-21-07, 11:17 AM That seems much lower than I thought. I guess the CRT market ain't what it used to be...
To answer your other question, it was set up in a dedicated theater that never got much use.

Brian B 08-21-07, 11:23 AM There is no big rush aside from the fact that it takes up space. Is the TranScanner so outdated? It seemed to do a decent job when I recently tested the projector with some DVDs. Is the TranScanner 3 any better? Also, I have a DVDO HD. Is this a much better choice for a match?

garyfritz 08-21-07, 12:08 PM Well, I dug up a manual for the TS2 (http://dwin.com/files/manual_ts2_1.9.pdf), and it's not quite as outdated as I thought. I thought it was just a line doubler from 480i to 480p, but it appears it can accept 720p and 1080i on component inputs. It's not clear what output scan rates it supports -- it probably just echoes its input.
So basically it looks like a reasonably capable switcher for low-res inputs, plus a transcoder for component inputs. Swtichers for S-video and composite video are not in much demand these days. At best I'd say it's probably worth less than current transcoder/switcher models, such as the Crescendo Systems RTC2000 for $159.
The TS3 uses more current technology, with two DVI-HDCP inputs and DVI-HDCP output in addition to the TS2's features. That's of some interest in the CRT world but (especially the DVI output) a lot more interest for digital owners. It also seems to top out at 720p / 1080i so it wouldn't help somebody looking for 1080p.
Oh Im still tickled with my DWIN HD700 dont think Im saying anything bad about that Gary. I feel I got a good deal from you and agree that the market is a lot worse then it was when I made the deal with you or I may have been able to now buy that same PJ from you for 1/2.....I havent been usign it much since Ive been out on my new boat all weekend long but I can tell I will use it a lot this winter and problably this weekend. All the sun and night fishing is waring me out I need to chill this weekend and watch some TV. I almost forgot I have a theater in ym house lol....

Steve Bruzonsky 08-22-07, 06:37 PM The Transcanner 1 only accepts 480i and scales it, except that its RGB input is a pass through for 480p, 720p and 1080i.
The Transcanner 3 only has digital video (I believe DVI, but not sure, think it came out before HDMI) but no analog RGB H/V Sync outputs.
The Transcanner 2 includes 2 sets of component inputs that accept 480i and scale,
or pass through 480p, 720p and 1080i. Autosensing. However, its pass through ain't a true pass through because it also decodes (which is good).

VIc, you are stupid and you overpaid! Why sugar coat this?
(Just kidding!!!)
Brian B 08-23-07, 11:47 AM Thanks for the info. I'll have to check to see which one I have with the projector. Isn't the T3 still a current Dwin product?

garyfritz 08-23-07, 01:17 PM It's still listed on their website (http://www.dwin.com/?q=transcanner-video-processor-overview), so I think it still is current.
