From my experience corporations are like a bunch of teenagers. One of them will be a trend setter and come up with something cool or provocative while the others sit back and watch. When one jumps in then the next thing you know they all start going towards it with full steam.

So is this going to cause a mass exodus to HD-DVD, or will it fade into the journals of just another insignificant battle?

Wrong Forum this is about players not studios, and you know that.... ;)

First... an event like this is something we do not see every day.

Second... if it has any purpose at all it is to show everybody that nothing is for granted.

Third... I bet there are lots of executives thinking "OMG, I wish it was us!"

Fourth... I heard LionsGate has seen better days.

Fifth... I think Blockbuster will go back to Toshiba's comment (that it was too shortsighted to dismiss HD DVD so soon) and will read it again with another pair of glasses.

Sixth... Sony created a structure of support based on content... and that content prove elusive.

Seven... If Sony have spent megatons of money on PR... well... this was the day Toshiba (or whoever) rendered it useless... meaning that Sony will have to spend it all over again... and fast.

Eight... Warner... would they? Could they? It would be so massive, it could end the war and sent many Sony execs to unemployment.

I thought this forum was about HD DVD software. His post seems to be appropriate.

My guess is that without specific financial considerations, most other studios will just sit back and see how Q4 plays out. But when HD DVD players sell like pancakes at $199 and under and the much quoted 2:1 ratio tightens up, they'll throw their hats into the ring on the HD DVD side too... which will tighted up the 2:1 ratio more, which will cause other studios to take notice, which will...

Remember that domino picture that the BD side kept posting again and again? Well now there's a big Transformer grabbing one of the dominos and sending all of them tumbling in the other direction.

In re: Warner--would they, could they?

If you were at Warner, would you want Sony Pictures Corporation controlling distribution of your high definition material? That's what would happen if HD-DVD went belly-up. I think Paramount read the writing on the wall from the Target and Blockbuster developments, and did not like the trend of that story...I'm surprised that Fox, Disney, and MGM have gone along with Sony, buy we all know they squeeze a nickel so hard the buffalo coughs up buffalo juice...

Not before the holidays. Its all about positioning now. G3 players coming online (possible agressive pricing), 360's with HDMI, MS price drops, new titles...they are getting them all lined up for the holidays. Retail purchasing for Q4 is done or close to being done.

Let's keep Warner on the radar coz they may become HD DVD exclusive because of lackluster support of interactive features and un-finalized BD spec.

My guess is that Sony will retaliate by buying off New line and LOTR will only be on BD.
