What would you consider too many operating hours? I found a DWIN for sale with 10,500 operating hours. Seems like a lot of hours to me. What do you all think? Too many?
Thanks,
David

Thanks, David SondekLP12 08-20-07, 07:55 PM My Dwin HDP-500 has less than 800 hours on the original tubes, but with a bad power supply, and that it couldn't resolve 720p (way too soft picture), I wouldn't value it very much. Dan Fellenz 08-20-07, 09:19 PM I wouldn't worry about the hours unless you expect the tubes to be in good condition; after 10,000 hours they will most likely need to be changed out. With +10k hours on the unit it has long ago passed the most common time for failure (low hours) and if the DWIN is anything like most CRT's it should run for a long time w/o problems. Vic C 08-21-07, 02:23 AM That is total run time on the chasis. If the tubes have been replaced it should be fine if its working right but if its got the original tubes they may be soft and definetly not as bright as new. I have been told that if that unit was run wih low brightness and contrast levels at 10K hours the tubes may still look pretyt white and unburnt so you may want to find out whats what with it. I have an HD700 with 1000 hours on it and its an amasing projector. Problably one of the very best 7" machines ever made. garyfritz 08-21-07, 11:20 AM The key thing to understand is that ES focus tubes get soft (lose their sharp focus) with age. And as an ES projector, it was softer than a good EM projector when it was new. If those tubes are original, and actually have 10k hours on them, I'd bet they're junk. If it has been recently retubed, it might be OK. If the tubes are in good shape, as Vic says, it's a really sweet little projector. 720p is pushing its abilities but the SD DVD picture is very nice. |
