View Full Version : What happens to Paramount blu ray titles already released? eapleitez 08-20-07, 08:55 PM I assume they are OOP now, yes? That should make some interesting changes in sale rankings. Capek 08-20-07, 08:58 PM That question popped into my mind a couple minutes ago as well. It seems like they'd keep selling them, keep producing and selling them, and just go with HD-DVD for releases here on out. But maybe after they go through current stock, they won't produce any more. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. MichaelHDDVD 08-20-07, 09:00 PM Current Paramount and Dreamworks titles already released will most likely remain on store shelfs until they are all sold. Paramount probably wants to squeeze every last cent out of the Blu-owners as possible so they can use the $$ to fund more HD DVD releases. Once current stock sells out they most likely won't be replenished. MidnightWatcher 08-20-07, 09:08 PM Yeah, I think once stock is sold then that's it. The only place to buy it will be on eBay or something. Rhoq 08-20-07, 09:34 PM Aren't there some BD copies of Blades Of Glory already running around in the wild? There will be some very lucky sellers on eBay! Also, according to Harry Knowles at AICN, Paramount will release Spielberg titles on HD DVD and BluRay, at his request, because Spielberg is, apparently, a BD supporter. GizmoDVD 08-20-07, 09:36 PM Blades has already been shipped to stores... I plan to pick up several copies at Blockbuster as I'm sure they won't know about the recall :-) Poolrad 08-20-07, 09:37 PM Aren't there some BD copies of Blades Of Glory already running around in the wild? Spielberg supporting BD is a made-up rumor. Close Encounters was announced on BD so the fanboi's made the assumption this means Spielberg is Blu-Ray exclusive/supporter. Rhoq 08-20-07, 09:44 PM Spielberg supporting BD is a made-up rumor. Close Encounters was announced on BD so the fanboi's made the assumption this means Spielberg is Blu-Ray exclusive/supporter. From Harry Knowles' post at AICN this is a quote from Rob Moore, President Worldwide Marketing, Distribution and Home Entertainment for Paramount Pictures... "I then asked when the INDIANA JONES set would hit and if it would be exclusive to HD. Rob responded that on the films that Spielberg, however, is a huge supporter of Blu-Ray and always has been and wants the titles to be available in both formats - so those will be cross-platform titles. However, the rest of Dreamworks, Viacom/Paramount's world... those will be HD DVD exclusive for the next few years at least." ThePrisoner 08-20-07, 09:48 PM I can imagine in a few months that certain Paramount BD's will be fetching some $$$ Julian Lalor 08-20-07, 09:59 PM Spielberg supporting BD is a made-up rumor. Close Encounters was announced on BD so the fanboi's made the assumption this means Spielberg is Blu-Ray exclusive/supporter. As the Paramount press release made specific reference to Spielberg's films, it has to be assumed that he personally wanted his films to be released on Blu-Ray as and when they become available. HomerJay 08-20-07, 10:00 PM Yeah, I think once stock is sold then that's it. The only place to buy it will be on eBay or something. This would be my assumption. They're now out of print. As the Paramount press release made specific reference to Spielberg's films, it has to be assumed that he personally wanted his films to be released on Blu-Ray as and when they become available. The thing is that the way it's stated in the press release does not indicate any Spielberg releases are to be expected anytime soon. At least it sure doesn't sound too likely when it's put like this: Paramount Home Entertainment will issue new releases day and date as well as catalog titles exclusively on HD DVD. Today's announcement does not include films directed by Steven Spielberg as his films are not exclusive to either format. Press Release (http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/08-20-2007/0004648398&EDATE=) Saying that Spielberg movies are "not exclusive to either format" is just as accurate as saying "Fox movies are not exclusive to either format"...;)...if they're not being released, they don't count. Paramount has a huge catalog, is clearly a box office champ, and is the only place for Transformers. I can imagine that really irritates some people. I have to say I am very pleased!...:D bee01 08-20-07, 10:04 PM The man in red is going to visit you shortly to repossess your forbidden blue disks. I think once Toshiba sends him a new HD-A35 and he sees what HD DVD can do, he'll change his mind. ;) BIG ED 08-20-07, 10:33 PM They... E X P L O D E!!! DJ Matt 08-20-07, 11:29 PM What about Blades of Glory? Its a week until the release date. Haven't these discs already been pressed and ready to be sold on Blu-ray? I see it still available on Blockbuster for rent and on Amazon. There will be a lot of people pissed off I am sure. Bring on those HD DVD exclusives though! *2 thumbs up* HomerJay 08-20-07, 11:38 PM What about Blades of Glory? Its a week until the release date. Haven't these discs already been pressed and ready to be sold on Blu-ray? I see it still available on Blockbuster for rent and on Amazon. There will be a lot of people pissed off I am sure. Bring on those HD DVD exclusives though! *2 thumbs up* Paramount/DreamWorks no longer publishes titles on Blu-ray. This starts next week (Aug. 28th): The companies each said that the decision to distribute exclusively in the HD DVD format resulted from an extensive evaluation of current market offerings, which confirmed the clear benefits of HD DVD, particularly its market-ready technology and lower manufacturing costs. Paramount Home Entertainment will launch its exclusive HD DVD program with the release of the blockbuster comedy hit "Blades of Glory" on August 28th and follow with two of the biggest grossing movies of the year "Transformers" and "Shrek the Third". These three titles alone represent more than $1.5 billion in box office ticket sales worldwide. Collectors items? Memorabilia? DJ Matt 08-20-07, 11:43 PM I understand that it starts next week, but these discs have already been pressed and packaged. Thats why I am so surprised that this is taking place this quickly (starting with next weeks titles). This is just overall great news. I have been ecstatic all day! vancouver 08-21-07, 01:00 AM Collectors items? Memorabilia? Ill post mine in the market place...maybe ill be able to get more then I paid for them...supply and demand :) Brodie_Bruce 08-21-07, 01:13 AM Who here has proof that these discs have been pressed? On Paramounts website there is no link for Blu-Ray on Blades Of Glory. Amazon puts stuff up for pre-order that doesn't exist and can because they don't take your money until it ships. The covor art is simply photo shopped from the DVD case. I don't think this was a last minute decision. So they may have never manufactured them to begin with but didn't want to spoil the announcement. I for one am stoked about this decision. I was waiting for some sort of big announcement like this from one of the sides. I just never expected a studio to drop support of one. I thought one of the exclusives would go multi platform. As for Spielberg. That guy didn't release any of his films on DVD for a few years either. He and Lucas both don't like to jump on a format until it's proven. So I would'nt hold my breath for any titles from either of those chumps any time soon. DJ Matt 08-21-07, 04:37 AM ^ There is no proof, but a week until the release date you think they would be pressed. And you always hear these stories about DVD's, CD's, etc being leaked anywhere between 2-4 weeks before the release date. bourke 08-21-07, 04:42 AM The man in red is going to visit you shortly to repossess your forbidden blue disks. How did you know I was coming?! I dare you to buy up all of the remaining Blu-ray copies of MI3 & Shooter... Then eBay them starting at $100 each :-P The profits will help fund your HD DVD collections :-) alfbinet 08-21-07, 08:15 AM Amazon is still listing the BD version of Blades of Glory as pre-order. EproductWars is showing it listed at #4 for BD discs. I wonder if it spikes up to #1 because of its short "life span." ni9ht_5ta1k3r 08-21-07, 10:14 AM Amazon is still listing the BD version of Blades of Glory as pre-order. EproductWars is showing it listed at #4 for BD discs. I wonder if it spikes up to #1 because of its short "life span." But Face/Off BD has been stricken from their database. I think that they'll sell off the remaining BD stock and just keep making HD DVDs. |
