Hot on the announcement that Paramount has gone HD DVD exclusive, we're seeing the first change in high-def buying, with "Blades of Glory" moving up 1114% on Amazon's sales rankings. Originally announced for both HD DVD and Blu-ray, the high definition version of the Will Ferrell comedy will only be available on HD DVD.

Toshiba HD DVD players and the Xbox HD DVD add-on are also seeing a sales spike as a result of the Paramount & DreamWorks announcement.

Current sales rank is like #262. The #5 in the screenshot is probably for the 1100% increase in sales (not sure how to get the site to display based on % change rather than sales rank).

#5 in the "Movers and Shakers" cat. #297 overall in DVD.

Its probably from neutral people buying the HD DVD version when they originally had the BD version.

Why is the HD DVD so expensive? Is it a combo disc?
I find it difficult to pony up $28 for an HD DVD and its not even a combo.

Not a combo, and its $1 more then the current now canceled Blu-Ray version

Ok, well then that brings up 2 more questions.
1) Why is the HD DVD more than the BR version when the technology is supposedly cheaper for HD DVD manufacturing and the HD DVD is not a combo?
2) Why is Paramount charging $27.95 for an HD DVD (non-combo) when other studios are charging $19.95 (via amazon) for new HD DVD titles.

I would like to buy Blades of Glory and add it to my ever growing collection, but I barely liked spending $28 on HD DVD / DVD combo discs, let alone spending that much on a non-combo disc. I appreciate the fact that Paramount is HD DVD only now, but I'm not shelling out $28 per disc for the privilege to purchase Paramount movies. Maybe a movie like Transformers I would make the exception, but Blades of Glory will have to stay on my wish list until it goes down in price. $27.95 is too much IMO.

I wasn't going to buy this either - not my type of movie - but I feel the need tosupport as well. I just place an order for it, and Meet The Fockers to show some 'HD DVD exclusive' love.

The Amazon price for both HD DVD and Blu-ray versions is the same - $27.95. $19.95 price you're referring to is for the catalog releases only - new releases cost more - also both HD DVD and Blu-ray. Hope this helps :)

I think it's also a 2-disc release,though I could be wrong.

hardly post in here, mostly just reading thats all. i was surprise to see paramount jump side to HD-DVD and i literally almost miss work digging up some more news. it just came out of no where. anywho i bought blood diamond on HD-DVD and it only cost $19.99, i believe this is a new release and not a catalog. i got this at FRY's, i also bought shooters the day it came out on HD-DVD as well and it was $28.99 and no combo. that is what i'm confuse about. again i was planning to grab a blu-ray player but maybe i can wait till the combo player become really cheap.

Impact? Really positive. HD DVD is here to stay!:)

Ya, I don't know what is up with Blood Diamond - Frys must have gotten some special deal - same Blood Diamond I bought at Frys for $18.99, and Best Buy sells it for $35 with MSRP being $29.95, I believe....

It's amazing what lack of competition does to important sales.

Wonder how Transformers will do in December RIGHT before Christmas?

300,000 in sales the 1st day? I hope so. I want it to be the highest selling HDM of all time (to date of course).

Paramount picked right!!!

Is it OK that I like the "blu" cover better?!?!?!
Or, do I have to leave now?!?!?!

I'll buy this, just to support Paramount.
(may watch the movie as well!)
AV Fans do miss out, as the BD had 'better' audio, correct?

It would be interesting to know how many neutral folks simply ordered this in HD DVD after the BD was cancelled. BD's main talking point has been how the consumers have chosen a format. If it ends up that sales can quickly port from one format to the other because there are so many neutral enthusiasts that argument could go away pretty quickly.

Checking out the reviews for both versions, it seems the Blu-kids are upset over Paramount's decision and are giving the Blu-ray version bad marks.

BD people are lying... They are lying because they are angry... It will include a TrueHD track which is exactly the same as a PCM track... just that TrueHD is like the .flac format as in compression.. But everything that PCM has TrueHD has also.. Don't believe those lier's..

BD Fan-boys are very angry! I like both formats, over in the blu section it is not a good! Poor bastards...they didn't see it coming! Neither did I, but oh well...when you own both why complain! Viva HD DVD!!
