View Full Version : Show Paramount Our Appreciation

The recent news certainly has upset many BR supporters to the point that I’m sure Paramount will have to endure some grief in the near future.

Anyway I thought it would be nice to show Paramount that there are those of us that are happy with there decision by purchasing an extra Paramount title.

Not necessarily one that you were planning on purchasing anyway but an additional blind buy to show support for the format and appreciation to Paramount.

Any that decide to join in please come back to the thread and post the title or titles that you order or purchased.

I really want to pre-order a Paramount title to show my appreciation but I can't bring myself to order Blades Of Glory, is there any good Paramount flicks for pre-order?

TomsHT

Oh god please no.... I was thinking about picking one title also but oh how I hate movies like that... If were going to single a specific movie out can we agree on one that most would find tolerable.

Thanks for reminding me, in the past I have always posted that for each of Bills stupid articles I would show my disgruntlement buy purchasing an additional HD DVD movie that week.

So I guess I'm up for two blind buys tomorrow, one for Paramount and one for HD in general dedicated to Bill-ray

I'm sorry but this is really stupid, the ONLY reason I will ever buy movies is because they are good not because I want to say "Oh thankyou Mr. Paramount for blessing us with your precious films!"
YOU are the consumer and its your choice as to whether you fill up your house with crap movies. Is it just me or has this happened before, oh yeah! Warner did it, didn't they?
Expect to see more 'swapping sides' in the future
BTW I am a HD DVD owner.

I agree. But rather, it would be, "Oh thank you Mr. Paramount for preventing the Blu rabble from getting their paws on your precious films." It's not like they weren't releasing on HD DVD before.

I'll pick up The Warriors tomarrow, I already ahve the majority of the Paramouunt titles but that one I have held off on. And I'll definatly be picking up Blades of Glory on it's release, and I'm greatly anticipating Top Gun and the Jack Ryan Collection, aswell as Zodiac ( though I know that's not coming this year ) but I'll definatly be showing some support and upping my Paramount section of HD-DVD's.

I had not decided whether or not to get Face/Off or the Jack Ryan set, but I just ordered both. The $90 Amazon is charging for three Spider-Man movies will just have to go to five others instead.

Not enough of a fan to get Blades of Glory, though.

WHAT THE...? Show your appreciation????? Don't you do that EVERYTIME you spend $$$$ on one of their titles??? Buy a disc we weren't planning on purchasing???? Ok, this is getting out of hand, we've reached the point of absurdity on these forums. I thought it was bad over in the Blu-ray forums with all of their doom and gloom rhetoric, but this is just as ridiculous. Tell you what, I will get EVERY SINGLE HD MOVIE I CAN AFFORD, FROM ANY STUDIO AND IN ANY FORMAT, but here's the catch...I have to actually want the movies!!!! It's what being a consumer is all about, they provide what we "want" at a price we can afford, and we "pay" for it. The good news is, Paramount/Dreamworks have a lot of titles I will one day purchase because I have a 360 add-on...the bad news, is that I don't have a PS3 yet for the other studios' titles.

A.VOID
08-21-07, 07:50 AM
Can we please get Tomb Raider 2, now?

TomsHT
08-21-07, 07:55 AM
I'm not saying to purchase titles that you think are stupid, my own posts say that I wont get BoG for the same reasons. My point was if you wanted to show you appreication consider purchasing an extra movie out of the titles that are sitting on top of the fence that may not be a must own on your list but one that you would still be interested in anyway.

If showing your support for the format buy buying content is stupid to you then move on to the next thread...

Ironically, I bought "Trading Places" a couple of weeks ago....who knew Paramount/DW was thinking just that, lol! =)

They could really flex some muscle now if they wanted, and with only some of their biggest titles...just imagine if they announce and put out soon Braveheart, Gladiator and Shrek - the thought is amazing, no?! Those are MIGHTY titles that will sell players...this move at this point in time, no matter how it came to pass, was brilliant and it may even be influential - maybe, just maybe the likes of Warner will follow...

BTW, I'm wondering if within this big agreement between HD DVD and Paramount\DW, if they made it clear they want particular titles released within X amount of time or no deal? Could something like that have been included, do things like that happen in these situations, especially if the rumors are true and they simply lined some pockets to make it happen? Or would Paramount\DW say "no, we'll put out what we want, when we want."

Paramount Officially Cancels Blu-ray SKUs (http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/High-Def_Retailing/Paramount/Paramount_Officially_Cancels_Blu-ray_SKUs/879)
Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 12:45 PM ET
Tags: Paramount, High-Def Retailing (all tags)

In a note to retailers, Paramount has officially canceled all previously-announced upcoming Blu-ray releases.

As expected, Paramount won't release a single of its previously-announced upcoming Blu-ray titles, including 'Blades of Glory,' 'Next,' 'Top Gun,' 'The Jack Ryan Collection' and 'Face/Off' Instead, each of the titles will now be HD DVD exclusive.

Retailers received official word late Monday that all five Blu-ray titles would be cancelled, and that existing orders would not be fulfilled.

Within hours, pre-orders for these titles disappeared from sites like Amazon.com, DVDEmpire and others. (We've updated our own Blu-ray release schedule, as well.)

It remains unclear how long Paramount's previously-released Blu-ray titles will remain on store shelves, and/or whether they're even included in the terms of the studio's exclusivity pact with HD DVD

I emailed Paramount today ([URL="http://Mary_Kincaid@ Paramount.com"]) to confirm my support of their decision to go HD DVD exclusive. And said I will make a point of looking to Paramount/Dreamworks HD DVD for future purchases. I am sure they are getting a fair amount of negative feedback from the BD camp so a little positive reinforcement was called for.

I actually bought 3 Paramount Blu-rays for the first time ever, Trading Places, Italian Job, and Sky Captain. I wanted to collect some Paramount Blu-ray while they were still available. Yes, because being a consumer is exactly the same thing as being an employee.

Paramount didn't do this for YOU, they did it for $100 million in cash and incentives.

And I must have missed something, but when has Paramount NOT been supporting HD-DVD? Haven't they been releasing software on HD-DVD for about a year now?

MichaelHDDVD

And I must have missed something, but when has Paramount NOT been supporting HD-DVD? Haven't they been releasing software on HD-DVD for about a year now?

Paramount has always been with HD DVD. However now since they are exclusive HD DVD might get more movies since there doesn't have to do a separate encode for a Blu-Ray version. So instead of doing an encode of Transformers for Blu-Ray, they can do a encode for another movie for HD DVD and release two HD DVD movies instead of one version of Transformers for two formats.
