I hate to be adding another thread to this fiasco, but I am tired of reading the same opinions scattered through a dozen threads. Let's settle this with a poll!

Why even bother? The HD-DVD cheerleaders will come over and ruin the vote.... Maybe let them calm down from the news today LOL...how sad and pathetic they look.

As of right now I'm going to say that both formats are going to win, kind of like the Wii and the 360.

I am gonna speak the truth....

Before this it wasnt really looking good for HD DVD all we would see is good blu ray news almost every week.

Now this is something major, bigger then blockbuster and target, But it doesnt mean HD DVD will win...

I cant predict what will happen but IMO HD DVD is back with force....

Its not the end for Blu Ray as some HD-DVD fanboys are making it sound. If anything, HD-DVD was in trouble before this announcement. This just kinda evens out the playing field now. Its still anyones game to win, or to lose.

i see a lot more BR fans saying its the end than the other side. havent you noticed the latest trend of all HD formats will now be extinct and HDVOD is now the winner even though it doesnt even exist?
I mean maybe you havent been following the 23 threads on the first page today.
This is embarrassing.

BTW, I completely agreed with your posts in the other thread on this whole fiasco getting out of control and all the ridiculous: "Oh well, no BD for me" or "So much for HDM" over-reactions. I am surprised no one is running to sell their TVs, cause this is really the end of all home video entertainement unfolding before your eyes.

Oh yea no doubt that the BR fans have continually said that HD-DVD will lose, but I'm also saying that although it is a huge deal that Paramount dropped Blu Ray, its not the end for Blu Ray as some are making it sound.

no matter who says it. Br is far from beat and still very much in the lead. but maybe fans can not take a win for granted now and attempt to not take this crap so seriously in general. it's just HD eh? I'm excited because it seems both sides have been injected with adrenaline and hopefully the titles will really start flowing.

It is a big deal, and nice work HD-DVD. This, coming from a very staunch BD supporter. That's the kind of move you needed to not be totally annailated this holiday season. Make no mistake, if this move hadn't been made, BD would have probably sold 3:1 this xmas and Univeral would have been pressured into going neutral ending the format war.

I'm not real sure what this means. It sucks to lose Paramount, but Fox/Disney are our real aces. Fox by itself if modivated the way Univerasal is is = to Universal plus Paramount. HD-DVD can't win the format war without Disney. I feel that what this move did is guarenteed the survival of HD-DVD. It wasn't a real format before today (DVHS had more studio support) but as of now it's the real deal. I'll probably look for a full feature combo player rather than the Denon player at this point. Well, I like good hardware, so maybe I'll still get the Denon, and then maybe I'll get the XA2. It is the only worthwhile HD-DVD player out there for people who *care* about what they buy.

the samsung dual formatter dont look too shabby. as far as HD DVD goes the A35 looks pretty decent as well on paper.

I don't get why people here advocate buying 2 players. J6P is only gonna buy one and if J6P doesn't buy then both formats will die.

Since the studios won't cooperate, we need combo players. Stat!

No matter how you cut it, this is a major stumble for BD. Before today it seemed like they had it locked down. Now HD DVD has a really good shot a winning. It just goes to show you that everything can change at the drop of a hat.

I'd say it's a stumble for Paramount and the consumers.

I'd say it's a stumble for Paramount and the consumers.

you could say that. but it might come off as sour grapes. it just might. It's pretty good news for consumers who have bought HD DVD players. Kinda selfish to think we speak for the good of all consumers eh?

Wow... look at the results. As of writing this: minor stumble, major stumble and both win are all about equal.

We consumers have never been more divided.

Its a nice shot on the chin. But BD isnt going to lose based on this alone.

That was exactly my point. Now if this creates a domino effect, thats another story.

I still think Blu-ray has the advantage,if not as big as before.I feel that Fox re-entering the game(hopefully they're for real now) nullifies the loss of Paramount.

With the exception of Transformers and Bourne Ultimatum,Blu-ray is still getting most of the big 2007 movies: Spiderman 3, Die Hard 4, Simpsons, Ratatouille, FF 2 Rise of Silver Surfer,Pirates 3,plus Warner movies like 300,and I'm assuming Harry Potter.Blu-ray still has the edge in terms of commercially successful day and date releases which have been selling much better than catalogue.

In any light,I don't see anything coming from this Paramount move other than a further split between movie fans, and greater indifference from J6P sitting on the sidelines.Honestly, who wants to buy a player for Universal and Paramount movies and a player for Sony,Disney, and Fox movies(besides the format neutral on here, but this is not the path to HDM mass adoption).

Only Transformers is day and date. The rest are catalogue, and really I only see maybe Gladiator(just by it's nature)and Saving Private Ryan being big sellers.Possibly Star Trek II as well....Day and date releases are the big sellers right now for HDM,and Blu-ray has the edge there.
