View Full Version : What will be BD supporters FUD talking points as a result of Paramount going HD DVD?
Reginald Trent 08-21-07, 12:02 AM 1. The Paramount announcement slows down adoption by confusing mainstream buyers.
2. The Paramount announcement will only cause people to go the download route.
3. The Paramount announcement makes HD DVD look bad because they paid money to make a studio go exclusive. As a result, HD DVD supporters are hypocrites for talking about Sony's tactics.
4. We only need one HD Format as long as it's Blu-ray.
5. Blu-ray will win in the end, you'll see.
So what will it be?
eapleitez 08-21-07, 12:03 AM Well, according to head BD fanboy himself, Bill Hunt, the whole HD disc market is now doomed. It's not gonna stop me from buying HD DVDs one bit :D
Blades of Glory is the #7 BD product on Amazon, Paramount is still neutral:D
5thDanMaster 08-21-07, 12:15 AM You should have added "all of the above" because they will use whatever sticks.
F: All of the above. You beat me to it!
5thDanMaster 08-21-07, 12:17 AM Blades of Glory is the #7 BD product on Amazon, Paramount is still neutral:D
Not if they don't ship your BD order.:D
Paramount's news conference states that they are nonly releasing it in HD DVD.:D
evolver 08-21-07, 12:18 AM Whoah...deja vu.

I already voted F. :D
WaveyD4vey 08-21-07, 12:19 AM i have both formats and i now honestly think its going to be a stalemate...one format may have a little more market share than the other but not much more...i really think there are some studios who want this whole thing to end up like this, a stalemate...but thats just my 2 cents!
Reginald Trent 08-21-07, 12:20 AM F: All of the above. You beat me to it!
I didn't use it because I knew most everyone would choose it. So I was trying to make it interesting.
Blu-ray had the momentum before. This takes that away. Now, I don't think either format has the upper-hand. It's anyone's ballgame.
pikappstrmchaser 08-21-07, 12:23 AM BTW, I voted "Blu-ray will win in the end, you'll see." because that's the only thing a coworker of mine could come up with this afternoon! Man, the funny thing is he doesn't even own a player or HDTV. Great news today!!
JaylisJayP 08-21-07, 12:53 AM The first option is always my favorite laugher....like blu-ray fanboys give a crap about the "average consumer".
What a joke...this day has been sooo sweet, and that's coming from someone who's format neutral.
heavy liquid 08-21-07, 12:55 AM I've been seeing #1 as the most common response, so far.
Not if they don't ship your BD order.:D
Paramount's news conference states that they are nonly releasing it in HD DVD.:D
Dude I was kidding!
robertazimmerman 08-21-07, 01:01 AM How about point #6?
"Hmmmm, maybe we should call the boys at Toshiba and try again to come up with a unified format......."

TV Casualty 08-21-07, 01:31 AM Well, according to head BD fanboy himself, Bill Hunt, the whole HD disc market is now doomed. It's not gonna stop me from buying HD DVDs one bit :D
Anyone know where I can see the comparison of his furious little fanboy rant's original form to his slightly refined "well, I guess I do look like an idiot by putting 'Moneysoft' in the headline?" version?
yellowcanary73 08-21-07, 01:39 AM Dude I was kidding!
See how easy it is to go way over the head of a HD DVD supporter especially 5thDanMaster

See how easy it is to show people you're in the wrong forum?
Chris Rein 08-21-07, 01:52 AM Well, according to head BD fanboy himself, Bill Hunt, the whole HD disc market is now doomed. It's not gonna stop me from buying HD DVDs one bit :D
Seeing how he thinks Blu Ray is the only HD disc market, well, yeah, his theory may be right! :p
This was interesting news today to say the least and will be even more interesting to see how the rest of the year in sales plays out.
I think anything you listed will be on FUDs R US soon.
Tom Arken 08-21-07, 03:32 AM How does this opinion poll sound:
Paramount / Dreamworks / all other studios put all the material on the web for free :P
My thoughts: In the end, thats what is gonna happen anyways; make as much hay as you can till the sun shines ;) I think the age of free information exchange is not far away...No matter how much crap people talk about copy..rights...
The "right to copy" always belonged to the people...And I think there will be soon tools to share movies/video that would be beyond movie studios/RIAA/governments to restrict....not to mention that those tools will allow individuals to copy without the fear of getting caught...Just my 2 cents ;)

I must have read this from 15 blu fans today.
I for one, am happy with this. I think the two formats encourage competition and has driven down prices faster then otherwise would have happened. I expect there will now be a bigger push for dual format players to encourage mainstream buyers into high definition.
You forgot to include "It's no big loss - Paramount & Dreamworks films aren't important as long as Fox is still aboard".
If Fox annouces neutrality next year - I would never have a reason to buy a BD player. This is an excellent time to be an HD DVD exclusive consumer. I truly believe that Paramount's announcement is only the beginning. I expect other studios to follow-suit by at least going neutral.
cnickersonjr 08-21-07, 07:39 AM You forgot to include "It's no big loss - Paramount & Dreamworks films aren't important as long as Fox is still aboard".
This would be my vote!
PS- who said Paramount was paid to go exclusive? So what, isn't that one of BD's tactics?
HDTVFAN0001 08-21-07, 07:46 AM Sony, yet again, has its head up its butt. The latest is that their PR firm (a reliable source, we're sure ) makes blatent statements about Paramount caving in to financial incentives.
HOW LAME CAN SONY GET.
Clearly, Sony got cuaght with their pants down (yet again). Yet another reason Blu Ray will fail in the end.
Here's the reality of it all:
Price A Factor In HD DVD Support, Studios Say
And the format war rages on. Monday Paramount and DreamWorks Animation both declared exclusive support for the HD DVD disc format, announcing that titles distributed by the companies' various subsidiaries (including Nickelodeon Movies and MTV Films) will be released exclusively on HD DVD going forward.
"We decided to release ... DreamWorks Animation titles exclusively on HD DVD because we believe it is the best format to bring high quality home entertainment to a key segment of our audience -- families," said DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg. "We believe the combination of this year's low-priced HD DVD players and the commitment to release a significant number of hit titles in the fall makes HD DVD the best way to view movies at home."
The exclusive program is set to begin with the release of "Blades of Glory," "Transformers" and "Shrek the Third" later this month.
According to studio execs, HD DVD's lower manufacturing costs and add-on technologies -- like interactivity and community features -- led to the decision.
"The combination of Paramount and DreamWorks Animation brings a critical mass of current box office hits to consumers with a line-up of live action and animated films that are perfect for HD DVD," said Paramount Pictures CEO Brad Grey. "Part of our vision is to aggressively extend our movies beyond the theater, and deliver the quality and features that appeal to our audience. I believe HD DVD is not only the affordable high quality choice for consumers, but also the smart choice for Paramount."
Does this mean the HD DVD vs. Blu-ray debate is finally over? Hardly, but things are certainly heating up.
cadbury8 08-21-07, 07:54 AM "The Paramount announcement slows down adoption by confusing mainstream buyers."
thats what i have voted. But i have already seen all of them. hehehehe. Just when things started to get boring... out comes this news and its all gonna get started again. Glad im not a mod. hehehe. This made everything exciting again. Thanks paramount! :)
CPR Jose Ortiz 08-21-07, 07:59 AM This can only compare to the Monday Nite Wars.
Just when they thought the WWE (HD DVD) was out and WCW (BLU RAY) was the indistructable force the "dead" format comes from "behind" with news like this.
...and its not the war that confuses people; Its the retailer.
I just saw an add for FYE. It has a PS3 with the 5 FREE MOVIE Deal.
If you look at the movies; 4 of them are Blu Ray and the last one is a Blazing Saddles HD DVD.
No one is being trained.
Sony must be digging into that 100 million dollar budget for advertising and intising their supporters to stay with their pay offs.
Found another quote hot off the press:
'Guess i'll just stick w/ my SD versions of Face Off, Top Gun and the Jack Ryan collection. Hey - I'm starting to save money w/ this decision by not having to double dip Paramount titles.'
How the F*** can you no longer want Top Gun in HD?!
HDphile22 08-21-07, 08:08 AM I am NOT voting this stupid poll is SO Biased!!!
