Several commenters on Digg have responded to this whole mess by saying they'll wait for affordable combo players. I agree with them. We obviously can't count on the studios to make sense. People don't want formats. They want movies. And for people who aren't AV enthusiasts, buying two players is a non-starter.
The upcoming Samsung unit looks good on paper, but it's $1K. You can buy two players for less than that. Whichever manufacturer can bring an affordable dual format player to the market first wins - my $$$ and a lot of other people's.
