This should put to rest rumors the two stores are no longer carrying Toshiba standalone players online:

Looks like it was in fact a sell out and not the Blu Ray exclusiveness that many wanted everyone to believe.

Not surprising.

HD DVD never left Costco. They've had A2s and A2Cs constantly in inventory, even throughout all this spin.

Target.com is fulfilling A2 orders via Amazon, and they've been on the Target website as long as Amazon has had them for sale.

Even as a HD DVD guy I need to call BS on this thread.

1) The target deal was only for instore sales. On the webapge you have listed:
Availability : Usually ships within 1 to 2 days.
This item is available online, but is not available in stores.

2) I never heard anything about costco pulling support. Ever week that I have gone there they have had a display bunch of players and a demo running on a flatscreen. One week there were no players but the display was still up. I asked one of the employees and he said they sold out and the next truck doesn't arrive for a few days.

SO to sum it up there is nothing to see here. Target had HD DVD players online before and after the Sony placement deal. Costco had HD DVD players online and instore for a long time now. I wonder if Target sees the $150mil payout and looks at the likely chump change they got from Sony and wishes they had held out for more.

It reminds me of that line from Braveheart where the King of England is talking about the prices the princes turned for. Something like One guy turned for a doubling of his holdings in England and Scotland and the other turned for much much less. :D

Of course TArget/Costco sell HD DVD products. They never said they wouldn't. It was just a stunt pulled by Sony/BDA to promote Blu-Ray. Target even came out afterwards and submitted a PR release claiming reports that they were exclusively BD was false and that it was just a deal to place a Sony BD player on an endcap. The amount of bad reporting these days on the internet really reinforces these stupid lies that Sony/BDA likes to project as truth just to score PR points and people like you are the sheep that are their targets with this disinformation.

My Costco is finally selling HDM players. They have a stack of the Philips players, and beside it, a stack of RCA players. :/

This thread is regarding those two stores selling the Toshiba players online. A few weeks ago multiple threads were started proclaiming "Target and Costco pulling support for HD DVD". The lack of Toshiba players offered online was used as proof to support being pulled. Many speculated the Toshiba players may have been absent due to lack of inventory. Others insisted this was not the case, and proclaimed "the end is near".

Well, it appears it was simply an inventory problem. Both stores are back to selling the players online, the end is not near....the sky is still...in the sky.
