View Full Version : Question for people who went from supporting 1 format to both...
simonNYC 08-21-07, 08:31 AM For those of you who first went blu-ray and then bought an hd-dvd player,
what were your initial impressions of hd-dvd after having been exposed to blu-ray? (pq/aq differences? did you find the interactivity of hd-dvd cool? or did you not even notice the difference in how the discs operate?)

Slim GoodBooty 08-21-07, 08:32 AM The picture and sound is the same and all discs operate the same except for PotC, which sucks on everything but the PS3.

While I am supporting both, I am calling you out on this one.
BD has far better audio across the discs than HD DVD does. I am not talking about a specific case but there's more lossless going on on the BD side. Additionally, Disney's releases on BD have been nothing short of incredible, and I expect that trend to continue.
Quit FUDing a guy that's asking an honest question.
cnickersonjr 08-21-07, 08:40 AM I had HD-DVD, then got a BD player(BDP1000). My impression was that the PQ was equal in most cases, subpar in some. The POTC took forever to load up! Audio wise the PCM seemed louder than TrueHD, but louder doesn't equal better audio quality. So I have to turn my amp up for TrueHD, no problem my amp has head room. You have to have the dynamic range, to handle the highest highs and the lowest lows.
Yes I missed the feature differences.
In the end I returned the BD player, too expensive, too little features!
PS- I did like that most of the BD movies I saw did have trailers of upcoming movies in what appeared to be HD. Some HD-DVD's have them too, but it's rare.

I promise that if we took 100 people and played them x BD and X HDDVD 99 of them would say the audio was the same. I guess I should have been more clear about Pirates, but lets just say that I won't watch it on BD because of how wonky the discs are. The video is fine once you actually get to the movie, but it is no better than the best on HDDVD.
RAVEN56706 08-21-07, 08:48 AM I am an HD fan and i just want my movies in HD..... the pq and audio are almost the same but if you talk to a fanyboy, they will tell you their supported format is the best you will ever get

Except only about .00001% of the people can play that lossless audio on BD. Heck some of the BD players like the Samsung BDP1000 do not even support the better compressed audio let alone the lossless audio.
The reality is that for 99.999% of the peope, the video and audio will be the same, and BOTH formats support lossless audio.
Now quit your FUDing and go pre-order a copy of Transformers.

The guy asked a simple question. I answered him. I am sorry, I disagree that Pirates presentation on BD could be replicated on HD DVD. Those titles are outstanding, especially during the action scenes... add the lossless and it's audio/video nirvana.
Transformers has nothing to do with what he asked. I know you are happy about your format of choice scoring one yesterday, but it doesn't belong in this thread whatsoever.
