I put my Velodyne F1500R on Craigslist the other day. I got an email from someone interested. I thought it might be a scam, so I replied back giving them a final price and nothing personal. Here is the reply I got:

WTF indeed.
Not sure what kind of scam this guy is trying to pull but that just sounds wong in every sense.
Jeff-
Red alert on that potential sale.
There's a thread about Audiogon scams on AVS you might want to read. He seems to want your address and contact number as it's highlighted in bold. The individual being deaf is very unusual almost to the point of perplexing. A very unusual response no doubt and your WTF sure seems legitimate. It's a bizarre world.

I saw the red flag as soon as he replied to not only the subwoofer ad, but the ad for a full set of Klipsch too! I only responded to one to see if it was a scam.
Klipsch and Velodyne are good, but what's the point if you can't hear them?
If I was a scammer, I'd have a response something like this if I am deaf: "I am purchasing them for my friend or family."
Very similar to an offer I got last week for a patio dining set I was selling.
I asked for cash at time of pickup instead of a check... and never heard from him again.

"I'm having a friend type this email for me. I'm interested in your 12 string guitar, but both my arms have been amputated and I can't type very fast with my nose. WESTERN UNION MONEY WIRE ONLY. GIVE ME YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER HURRY!!1..."

I swear this guy types like the guy who was harassing me. If he used the word kindly over and over then it would have been more obvious, but the horrible style of talking is a dead give away. I wonder if there are like 5 people working together trying to scam every single person on craigslist?

I'd be leery of any deaf person buying a speaker!!!!

This is actually a common scam in the apparel business. Somebody calls you up using the teletype service. They say they want to buy a large quantity of t-shirts. Will pay via certified check.
I think they use the teletype service (which is legit and free to deaf people) so you can't hear that they can't speak english very well!!
You know, if you were deaf you could put all your HT budget into your sub 80hz range!!! (that's what I'd do).
