There is such an uproar about the latest announcement. Yet nobody cried foul with Sony being BD only. Nobody cried foul when blockbuster went BD only. In fact everyone here was gloating about it. I own both formats so its not an issue for me. But if one wants to dish it out when the ball is in their court, they better be ready to take it on the rebound.

What do you mean? People were all over the Blockbuster announcement, saying that it was stupid and even threatened to cancel their memberships, switching to Netflix. Then they realized that BBOnline still had HD DVD so renting more HD DVD discs online and returning them to the store would make more of a statement.

As for Sony on BD, it's sort of obvious there. Sony is all about Blu-ray and helped create it. For most people, there aren't many Sony films worth owning.

Double standards. No matter what Blu-Ray does to win is cool... but when HD DVD tries to win a foul is called.

Why would Sony not go with their own format?

That's like saying "why isn't there an uproar about Toshiba being HD DVD only!?"

people are always touting that sony helped develop it. Yes, that is true. But Sony also owns the movie studio. Toshiba does not own a studio. So this is really a fair game at this point.

Well, I think you really cant cry foul for Sony being exclusive to BD since they created BD. Although, you could cry foul to Disney, lion gate, fox/mgm, since they did not create BD. Crying foul for Sony would be like crying foul that MS doesnt make games for the ps3.

I hear pay off (which in business is actually INCENTIVES) being thrown around.

I knwo for a fact FOX and Disney did not jump aboard BDA for FREE. Same with the other exclusive on both sides.

There is always money being exchanged for "favors".

Most of the foul cryers make it seem like it never happens. Perhaps they should look at the stock market day in and out to see what happens when a comapny turns a profit. More people invest in the company.
