Anything common to these two projectors, to make a 1209 worthwhile as a parts machine for a 1209S ?

About 50/50.

These boards should be same:
G2
CONV. DRIVER
CONV. OUTP.
HOR. DEFL.
SYNC.+ VERT.DEF.
POWER INPUT
2nd ANA. INPUT
MAGN. FOCUS + SHIFT

Don't forget

Quadrupler
EHT
HV splitter
AC Input Board
The magnetics on the tubes are all the same.

That is right, if it's not 1209s/E that have new boards.

Thanks guys!

I bought the pj. Just too good a price to pass on and very local. I was hoping the tubes would be useable. Now I have to decide if I keep it as parts, or as a backup pj.

Keep it as both,

If a part that is compatable between the two dies in the 1209s pull the part from the 1209 and if a non-compatable part fails pull out the 1209 and use it.

How are the tubes.

Sounds like the plan but this is a small house. I guess I could always ceiling mount it sideways, behind the screen in the front AT space, above the subwoofer, and it'd be out of sight.

Very good tubes with a new green.

If your just looking at spare boards buy a 1208s . Just about all the boards can be used in a 1209s .

I really wasn't looking for any pj, nor parts. This just came out of the blue and when the seller said "dirt cheap", he meant it. I didn't think the tubes were common between the two pjs, but I had my fingers crossed... :)

But I will keep the 1208s advice in mind. Thanks!

GT-17 lenses, beautiful gloss black painted cover, pristine tubes, spare HVPS. :)
