Hi everyone, I sent in a question to Roger's Video here in Canada about the availability of Blu-Ray / HD-DVD movies for rent. Here is a copy of the email I got back. So for my fellow Canadians who rent from Rogers, this is good news.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you very much for your question. We will be launching Blu-Ray
Discs and HD-DVDs for rental in our stores later this year.

We have been evaluating when to launch this on a monthly basis as the
High Def demand picks up after the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360 HD-DVD
Drive are becoming more available and prices of the hardware come down.
We're also closely watching new technologies introduced at the
International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that will affect
demands for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Some examples of these new technologies
include LG's dual-format player and Warner Bros' Total HD discs (Blu-Ray
on one side and HD-DVD on the other).

Best regards,

Fred B.

I hope Rogers Video stays format neutral and doesn't pull the same crap that Blockbuster did in the US. But, it looks like Blockbuster Canada will also be format neutral.

I'm an avid renter. I pretty much rent then buy if I love it (rarely blind buy).

If Rogers has HD and BD, my business goes there!

r

Just rent them from BB. That's where I rent mine. Every time I go into Rgers and ask about Bluray or HD-DVD, it's always the same answer, "not yet".

Once a Rogers employee even told me to go across the street to BB.

Crossing my fingers on this. The HD selection at the BB in Edmonton are not exactly top notch...
