Is there a large difference when using a y adapter for your subwoofer. will you get increased volume and clarity. I have a Klipsch synergy sub 12 and it pounds pretty hard. I was just wondering by hooking up a single sub cable am i getting mono sound from my stereo sub.
Thanks
A "stereo" sub? ;)
It just has left/right inputs... normally the "left" input is designated as the desired input. Although... you could go to Radio Shack and buy a ~$5 Y adapter and try for yourself.

No, you are not getting mono sound from your sub - unless, of course, you are playing a mono source. The receiver/processor will sum the bass from active channels and send that summed signal to the sub though one cable (there are details to know but this answers your question in a general way).
You can use a Y if you want and in most cases it causes your subwoofer to play slightly louder. HOWEVER, it does not make your subwoofer more powerful than it is, it's merely like turning up the subwoofer's volume a few notches. If your sub is a 100w sub (for example) it's still a 100w sub whether or not you use a "Y" cable.

I read between the lines of the question and believe the OP is concerned that he is getting only half the bass. So, I answered the question in a way that I hoped would reassure him it's not a problem.
My apologies if I oversimplified the situation.
To the OP, if you are feeding the sub from an AVR subwoofer jack, you are not missing any of the bass by using just one cable/one input on the sub.

You are correct. It takes 2 speakers with a left and a right source in order to have 'stereo'. Anytime 2 channels are combined into a single channel (such as a subwoofer) there is only mono.:)

I knew what you meant, but I wasn't sure the OP would. NP.
