I've been getting a disc read error lately where it tells me the disc is unreadable and that I should take it out and clean it with a soft cloth. It's only happened while playing Rainbow 6 Las Vegas, but I really haven't been playing anything else. Happens about once a session. Anybody have any suggestions or ideas? Thanks

Send it in to MS. Unless you are comfortable replacing the laser lens yourself.

I had the same problem. it got worse and worse until the unit had to be replaced.

My original xbox did the same thing. Is your xbox verticle? If so lay it down. That alone fixed my problem and it never happened again.

My unit is laying flat. It's the refurb that I've for about 2 months now, so I'm not real excited to think that I'm going to have to be sending it in again soon. I just was trying to see if maybe it was related to my RB6 disc or if it was my console that was at fault.

I have the same problem becuase xbox is great but the system itself is crap. I have a new xbox (just back fresh from Microsoft). Got Madden day one and at least 2 times I have gotten the disc error in the middle of online games. This also happend to me with other brand new games I think its just another issue for some 360's

For some?? I am on xbox 360 #3 (just picked it up yesterday). I have never got the RROD. Both of the boxes that crapped out were giving me DRE. I have the box very well ventilated and I compulsively dust my "little home theater" (27-in lcd, Onkyo HTIB). I wasn't afraid to try to adjust the pot, but I didn't have any luck. No sweat off my back, I have in store extended warranty so I don't have to deal with any coffins.

Mine has been doing that for over a year (almost as long as I have had it) only on certain games though. It is not very often, although I dont play it much, so I dont worry about the error myself.

I'm having the same issue you are. Sent in my previous console due to RROD issue and now I've had this refurb piece of crap for only 3 weeks now and its giving me this disc read error crap. Mine tells me that I need to stick my disc into an xbox 360, which it is in of course and it really started with Rainbow Six and now does it with Madden 08. If I reinsert the disc a few times, it finally reads and boots but this is getting rediculous.
