what causes games to freeze or for the 360 to lock up ?

lately i have been getting lock ups after i finish gams in madden in Franchise mode. The last time i experienced freezing was on y last 360 then it got the 3 red rings later on.


Is there anything to do to stop the 360 from freezing or locking up ? Is it cuz i have to much stuff on my hard drive ? I have a bunch of videos and demos.

can someone help me out ? thanks

Well I can't comment on this years madden because it hasnt been delivered to me yet, but last years madden would freeze on me or lock up for like 1 minute if I would try to go through the menus and cut scenes really fast, like when you just keep hitting the A button to skip through it. if you just take your time and let the menus or cut scenes run for about 5-10 seconds then everything should be good.

yeah i do try to skip through things right away you think this is the problem

it probably is because it happens a lot when i did it on last years madden and some other games i play. or it could be form a update you downloaded because i know mlb2k6 was breaking peoples system last year and it took a few months for them to fix everything

but yea i would go play a exhibition match and let the stuff load like i said and see if it still happens

Try to defrag the drive. Go to the system blade, choose memory, hit "y" on the HD. Now "x""x" left bumper right bumper "x" "x". This should fix you up nicely.

what does defragging the hard drive do? does it erase everything on it?

and do you think this is a problem with my hard drive. on my 1st 360, it started making this noise like spinning a skateboard wheel with rusty bearings, like everything inside was getting crushed and the disc was cracking in half but it actually wasnt. everytime i took out a disc it was fine. and this happened probably within the first month of having the system and it worked great until the system got the ring of death after a year.

so then a month ago i got a new 360 and in 1 week that same noise started happening on my new system but this time my disc drive was almost completely broke. it wouldnt read games but it would read a dvd if i opened and shut the disc tray about 10-20 times. so i returned it to costco and just ordered an elite which should be here in 2 days.

now i was using the hard drive from my 1st system on the 2nd one because of all my game saves. so do you think the hard drive had something to do with making that weird noise?

played 4 games of madden franchise mode last night and no lock ups

damn me and a friend played a couple games of madden and twice after the game was over it freakin froze up...

i think my 360's gonna die locks up every now and then after i finish a game of madden : (

Didn't mean to jinx you or anything...I just had this experience with my 2nd xbox. Likely just overheating inside so RRoD may be around the corner.
