Cant find the dang thing, so my original post edited.
Sisko197 08-21-07, 08:08 PM Well, I remember a Robert, not so long ago, telling us all while we bought XA2's from him that the XA2 would get 1080p24 in February. February 2007. Then, wasn't it June? July? August? Now, it's what? September?
Does anyone remember that?

He's been really busy and writing Toshiba's firmware has had to be put on the back burner.
eurotrance 08-21-07, 08:33 PM Something tells me Paramount's decision was based on facts they know that we don't... yet.

I dont think they specifically mentioned affordable (cheap) players on most of their interviews and press release for nothing :p
The key move now is to bring in the cheap players to the market at the beginning of Q4 in time for the holiday season.
Maybe these are ready to go:eek:

Found Roberts quote , was in the HD DVD forum
[QUOTE]
We have enjoyed a very large spike in HD DVD players sales since yesterday's Paramount and DreamWorks exclusive announcements. So much so that we are going to offer forum members Gen 3 players this Friday for pre-order.
The format battle is heating up and we will see more major announcements at CEDIA. So stay tuned...
-Robert
As has been said, Paramount did not abandon Blu Ray without believing there would be a brighter future for HD DVD. Perhaps we will see the realization of a few products that have long been in the works.
UxiSXRD 08-21-07, 09:50 PM 3rd gen players? Meh, I want to see the A2 at $199 shipped with the Complete Matrix included. :D
Maybe 3rd gen with shrek 3 or transformers?
RangerSix 08-21-07, 10:06 PM As has been said, Paramount did not abandon Blu Ray without believing there would be a brighter future for HD DVD.
Oh, I can think of about 150 million reasons.

Maybe 3rd gen with shrek 3 or transformers?
I thought about that. A "transformers" edition of a Toshiba.
Maybe 3rd gen with shrek 3 or transformers?
I'd bundle Shrek 3 with HD players and Transformers with the 360 add-ons.

LOL:D
I thought about that. A "transformers" edition of a Toshiba.
What, an HD-A2 that you can re-assemble into a truck? :D
paintit77 08-22-07, 12:23 AM How about a $59.99 Hunai brand player from Chang Dung China with 15 free movies and an Optimus Prime beer hat that actually opens the beer with a push of a button!
Or what if Paramount release Transformers only on an HD-DVD Combo disk for $19.99 thus actually adding the potential for 20 million future (and thus ready for) the conversion to HD-DVD when said player becomes available?
I mean Toshiba and MS are really missing the boat here! If they want to end this thing, that is where they should have got their check book out for! Of course that would involve analytical, critical and rational thought which since launch, they have been unable to do.
What, an HD-A2 that you can re-assemble into a truck? :D
How about an HD-A3 you can reassemble into a BD-A3 Blu-Ray player! Now that would be funny!
Lee Stewart 08-22-07, 12:35 AM How about an HD-A3 you can reassemble into a BD-A3 Blu-Ray player! Now that would be funny!
This is closer to reality then you can possible imagine:

mrkrispy 08-22-07, 11:14 AM i wouldn't expect bigger news than Paramount/Dreamworks, you will just be disappointed. Hopefully it is at least a big title release though.
SamwisetheBrave 08-22-07, 11:23 AM I'd bundle Shrek 3 with HD players and Transformers with the 360 add-ons.
From your mouth to Toshiba's ears! :D

Lee Stewart 08-22-07, 11:29 AM Well we do know that Toshiba will officially announce the Gen3 series of HD DVD players. Would not surprise me if they also announced the 1080x24P support firmware upgrade is ready for DNL.
From Sony? They going to announce a profile 1.1 player and throw the BDA CEM's under the bus again? Especially Samsung who has been shafted now three times by Sony? They have already announced their Gen3 players for Q4 and none of them are 1.1 compliant. And for a howdy do . . . .they spit in Sony's eye and announced a DF player.
CEDIA will be very interesting to see. Sort of a preshow for CES 2008.
X360 Ultimate (new falcon model), built in HD DVD drive and bundled with Halo 3 and Transformers HD DVD. $499

Why do you think it's Sony's fault that Samsung chose not to release a 1.1 compliant player yet?
Oh wait, I forgot. Everything is Sony's fault.

warm but still off ,it will have to do with hddvd though ,imo :D
JoeInNVa 08-22-07, 01:59 PM With all the lead problems they are having in China? No thanks!
HEY! If Lead was good enough for me when I was a kid, it's good enough for my kids!
wnorris 08-22-07, 04:29 PM Why do you think it's Sony's fault that Samsung chose not to release a 1.1 compliant player yet?

Because Sony wrote the BD-spec. Sony created 1.1, but then couldn't finalize how it works. This means other CE's can't design their products to include it.
Frank Derks 08-22-07, 04:59 PM bda made it mandatory to have many optional specs in br.
With all the lead problems they are having in China? No thanks!
Just don't lick your player :D
Disney going neutral and releasing new titles on HD-DVD concurrent with BD titles.
You know Disney has bee drooling at the HDi interactive layer(plus network port, mandatory secondary decoder, and persistent storage) they always wanted(even with SD DVD) but have been denied and will be denied until ~6 months after the 1.1 BDA specification is printed!
HaHa.
Other BD exclusive studios must have stopped drinking the Blu Cool Aid and are now recovering from their drunken stuper of the last year.
Intoxicated folks typically end up doing really dumb things they ultimately regret.
Just don't lick your player :D
DUDE! That is the most interactive feature there is! You seriously want me to give that up?

But the SIGMA 8634 Rev.C SoC exists. This is the SoC that will do 1.1. It solves the Luma Key problem. So why don't the Gen3 Samsung players have this SoC in them?
Denon announced a 1.1 compliant player. Why no one else? Samsung has 3 players coming NLT 10/31 and Pioneer's 94HD is only about 45 days old.
OR
1. Both Warner and Disney together declare going HD-DVD exclusive, with Bill Hunt lurking in the crowd........
2. This causes Bill Hunt to blow a gasket over his predictions unravelling. He has to be arrested and forcibly removed while spewing out profanities and professing his unending oath to Blu Ray till his death.
3. Bill Hunt's meltdown is caught and shown on National News broadcasts in Full-HD!

Now there's a contradiction in terms. It's no wonder the BD specs can't get finalized. ;)

If Warner went exclusive from another large Microsoft (anti-consumer) pay-out.. Then that would be a huge event and even out the exclusive studio's in my opinion.. Warner easily takes on Disney in popularity and titles while Sony, Fox and MGM takes on Universal since both share lots of great movie's. The advantage being still in Blu-ray's favor based on current blockbusters, however the format war will last much longer..

Pretty much a classic stalemate scenario on the software front, then it comes down to hardware prices.

Supermans you must be choking on BDA FUD and lies. MSFT made no payments to Paramount, and will make no payments to Warner.
The whole payment was made to Paramount and WILL be made to Warner is simply damage control. I have met with folks at News Corp and Warnerin NYC - and neither place was the confidence in BD high. At both places the story was - BDA gotta get their act together fast. I bet even Bill Hunt knows this as well, but he's too deeply in with Sony to report that kind of stuff and instead he focuses on covering up....the facts will emerge.
I can understand your deep sadness with what is happening :)

But money talks: Paramount and DreamWorks Animation together will receive about $150 million in financial incentives for their commitment to HD DVD, according to two Viacom executives with knowledge of the deal but who asked not to be identified.
Look.. they have 2 sources!

Charles J P 08-23-07, 07:55 AM Yes but that doesn't say FROM MICROSOFT. Crimeny people.
Person 1: M$ paid off Paramount
Person 2: No they didn't
Person 1: Yes they did, look, the NYT says they got paid
Person 2 and everyone else watching: [head explodes]
who cares where the money came from. It would be nice to see some confirmation either way, but we'll likely only know the truth if Paramount goes neutral or BD exclusive in about 18 months.
Mr. Integration 08-23-07, 08:05 AM Yes how dare a movie studio hold back their products from one format to prop up another for money.....evil corporations, wait we are talking about Sony pictures right?
Or Disney? Let's just wildly speculate on everyone's reason for their positions.
