View Full Version : Bay changes his mind!

Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three blu-ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted. I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard.

As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision.

So today I saw 300 on HD, it rocks!

So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!

The NY Times will print a retraction to their slant long before Bill Hunt ever admits to actually being Papa Smurf.

Actually, it wasn't even that long. He said he was at dinner last night 8/20 and made his rant post at 1:30 am on 8/21. Now, 7:51 pm, still 8/21, he's flip flopped, and it's all good. That's a tad over 18 hours....

You know what though, his story sounds plausable. He heard a one-sided story from a BD perspective and was angry. He then heard the real story along with facts. He watched 300 in HD DVD and saw that both formats produce stunning results. Good for him to retract his initial reaction.

Where is "Supermans" now?

:) I'm still here.. I'm just recovering from major surgery so I've been sleeping on and off a lot and have the use of my left hand only.. It is surprising to hear about MB's retraction and who knows if any money was involved in that conversation as well. It's a good thing he has Blu-Ray fans over for dinner though. He probably served them Blue Cheese dressing with thier salad and had the Blue man group perform for them as well. He probably gave his Blu-Ray guests a George Rodrigue painting (blue dog) as going away gifts. Who knows what happened that made him change his mind on his blog the next day. He isn't the only director that was upset initially at the Paramount decision. We shall if this has an impact on Paramount's biggest director, Stephen Spielberg and his decisions in the future. The format war is almost even now and both have great movie's coming out. It is a shame that most people don't or won't know the differences between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD when making their decisions and floor salesmen are almost always biased or wrong.. If this means we see better prices, I am glad this format war continues. If it slow's down overall adoption as a side effect I will not be as happy. I've always said that one new format for HD (after the public decides) which they prefer and is leading should win once the price war has been fought. So far it was a no-brainer that Blu-ray was winning most all categories minus player costs.. This may change faster now since the race has gotten tighter..I'll still support the format I feel offers the best quality all-around and that is Blu-Ray for now. If HD-DVD manages to release movies on TL51, and it works with my current HD-A2 perfectly. I may switch if truly is superior and delivers higher quality more consistently. Until then I will buy as many Blu-Ray movie's as possible and only get those titles from Universal and now Paramount that I feel are must haves. And thats it for me.

Bay's response is surely the most pathetic back-pedalling damage control seen here for a long time. There is absoltuley no way in hell he could go from his prior opinion to this new opinion overnight without some serious corporate persuation. Most likely Paramount asked him if he wanted to do any movies ever again with them.

Yeah, and the funny part is he supposedly watched 300 and that helped him "feel better" about HD-DVD..lol.. It does sound more and more like heavy persuasion and money talk that would prompt his response so quickly..

Katzenburg- Mikey!

Bay- Yes sir!

08-21-07, 11:58 PM
Everyone makes it sound like Bay cant do movies anywhere but paramount, and that transformers 2 is the only way he will make money in the future...

come on... have you seen the crap he has directed?

But at the same time, this convenient reversal does seem he has some tie or desire for transformers 2.

The whole price point of his is a bit absurd. Its not like a blu-ray player wont reach that price point eventually to. In 6 months two a year of a difference between them both reaching that, its not the world will not go one without seeing his movies on their format in HD.

Brad Grey - head of Paramount calls Michael Bay-bee;

" Hi Mike it's Brad . . listen I just read a statement by you that you are questioning our decision to back HD DVD and that you aren't going to do Transformers 2 for us"

"Yea Brad I am pissed at this news."

"OK Mike . . .we understand . . . just got a call from Bryan Singer and because you already said no to Transformers 2 . . well he's very interested in picking up where you left off . . .had a bunch of good ideas too."

" WAIT! . . . .I wasn't serious! . . Brad it's just the Steven Speilberg wannabe inside me taking control. I am truly sorry about this. I will take care of it immediately.

" Thanks Mike . . I knew we could count and you. And please make sure to say something nice about HD DVD for all the people who are going to see your movie in HD this Xmas."

"Brad . . . consider it done!"

And now we have a retraction.

At first I didn't think that he actually said that or it was taken out of context. I soon found it to be true. Then he posts that other nonsense on his blog.

It is just me or does that monosyllabic retraction sound like something a stupid tennager would say? He doesn't come off as very intelligent with either one of those baffling statements.

What's wrong with this picture? Newspeak

rewriting history

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newspeak

Simple explanation. Micheal Bay is now an enemy of the State of Blu-ray and history is now being re-written

The Ministry of Truth, which exercises complete control over all mass media in Oceania, employs Winston at the Records Department, where he doctors historical records in order to comply with the Party's version of the past. Since the present needs of the Party require constant revision of past events in order to reflect the shifting nature of the party's orthodox view of history, the task is a never-ending one.
