I have a Sony crt monitor from a few years ago with the vga cable coming out of the back--no port. Can I hook up the 360 to it by buying a VGA-female to VGA-female adapter, like this one (http://www.svideo.com/adavgaff.html)? Thanks.

the MS VGA cable comes with the gender changer that you need. it's exactly the same as the one pictured.

By the way, that will probably look EXCELLENT for super cheap. Hook up some external computer speakers and you'll have a setup that probably beats 90% of the HDTV's out there (depends on the monitor of course - but even cheapo ones can look killer).
