My wife and I have been searching high and low for a quality piece of furniture for our new 56" DLP. The problem we've run into is that it seems *nobody* makes a really nice looking piece of wood furniture that is also completely functional (doesn't set the TV up more than about 20" from the floor, has enough space for components, has a spot for a large center channel above or below, etc.).
Does anybody know of a manufacturer of furniture (factory or custom) that would fit the bill? I should re-emphasize that we are looking for a "nice" piece of furniture, not an AV rack or steel-and-glass TV stand for a few hundred bucks. :)
Thanks in advance!

I ordered my media storage from them, and recommend the shop in general.
arrgh, that's a tough thing you are looking for.. I'm also looking for a qualitly piece of furniture that looks nice and i'll be happy to look at for a while. I've got to find coffee and side tables to match also.
So, have you been to Bassett or Lane Furniture? I've also been considering a couple of Plasma Credenzas from Artistica Metal. Those should be available from Macy's.
Bassett Furniture has several pieces from the John Elway collection.
Modern furniture can be found at Scandinavian Design or Dania.
Curious, what sort of seating do you have for the room?

Check out www.roomandboard.com. I have purchased several pieces of furniture (including an entertainment furniture piece) from them and they are all very well made and good looking. They sell via the Internet, a catalog, and stores across the US. Very nice stuff and you really get what you pay for.

I'm looking for a media center that is probably a bit out of the norm so I'm hoping someone might be able to suggest some websites.
I'd like to center everything on my HTPC (ATX tower approx 2.5ft tall) and then have shelves flanking each side containing my AVR, Dish System, PS3, XBOX, and possibly room for a matching amp to the AVR.
I have two slightly contrasting goals here....I'd like to hide the cables that currently make my HT system look sloppy but I don't want to lose the air flow and gain needless heat build up that plagues most home entertainment center/media cabs etc.
I'll add that I currently have one of those walmart LCD racks (where the rack actually holds up the tv as if it were hanging on a wall) and I'd like to get away from that and mount my 42'' LCD on my wall so to gain about 2 foot of viewing space for my small living room area. Right now the seating distant in a couple of seating positions presents a rather sharp angle that could be avoided by mounting the tv to the wall.
I ran across this AVS thread on building your own (BYO) TV stand, pretty neat creations shown in those 32 pages of posts...

Maybe this will help,
