I am conducting a survey or poll if you would. The poll has to do with human psychology in reference to color choice. Although there is an intended behind the scenes reason for the question, I want people to answer honestly. Please answer based on color and not format preference. It will be an open poll. If you had to pick a color, what color do you like better, red or blue. Let's keep it simple. Please don't read into anything or run with the ball on this one and then post biased comments as to why you believe I am conducting this poll. I know why I am conducting this poll and most with common sense and some intelligence know why as well, so again keep it simple and focused on color, not format.

Here’s a list of frequently used colors and how people generally associate them:

WHITE – White is associated with innocence, purity, peace and contentment. It’s considered clean and sterile. It’s cool and refreshing. White can have a calming, stabilizing influence.

BLACK – Black is the ultimate power color. It suggests strength, potency, authority, boldness, seriousness, stability and elegance. It’s distinguished and classic, great for creating drama. Black has more weight than other colors. Too much can be ominous.

Gray or Silver – Gray can be associated with conservative qualities and considered traditional. Business-wise, it symbolizes high tech and suggests authority, practicality, earnestness and creativity.

GOLD – Gold suggests wealth. It’s considered to be very classy.

BLUE – Blue is the favorite color of many businesses. It suggests sanctuary and fiscal responsibility. It inspires confidence. It is the most popular and second most powerful color. Darker shades are authoritative. Dark and bright blues represent trust, security, faithfulness and dignity. Paler shades can imply freshness and cleanliness, although they can imply weakness.

RED – Red stimulates many kinds of appetites. Red commands attention, alerts us and creates a sense of urgency. It’s considered the sexiest of all colors. Red symbolizes heat, fire, blood, love, warmth, power, excitement, energy, strength, passion, vitality, risk, danger and aggressiveness. Financially, it’s associated with debt.

YELLOW – Yellow is the sunshine hue and is a spiritual color. Yellow represents a warning, but it can also bring happiness and warmth. The most preferred yellows are the creamy and warm ones. Bright yellow can be irritable to the eye in large quantities. Yellow speeds metabolism. It’s often used to highlight or draw attention.

GREEN – People associate green with the color of money, as well as nature. Olive greens are associated with health and freshness — a good choice for environmental concerns. Green suggests fertility, freedom, healing and tranquility. Green represents jealousy. Businesses use it to communicate status and wealth. Green is a calming, refreshing color that is very easy on the eyes.

BROWN – Brown is associated with nature and the earth. Dark browns represent wood or leather. Brown and shades of cream are associated with warmth and coziness. Brown suggests richness, politeness, helpfulness and effectiveness. It is solid, credible, mature and reliable. Light brown implies genuineness.

ORANGE – Orange is associated with vibrancy and the tropics, as well as warmth and contentment. It can instill a sense of fun and excitement. It implies health. It suggests pleasure, cheer, endurance, generosity and ambition. It can make an expensive product seem more affordable. It appeals to a wide range of people, both male and female.

PINK – Pink is considered to be a very feminine color. It represents gentleness, romance, well being and innocence.

PURPLE – Purple represents royalty and luxury. In darker shades, it’s considered a wealthy color. It suggests spirituality and sophistication. In paler shades, such as lavender, it’s feminine and romantic.

Please note that I have edited out a few paragraphs that dealt with sales and such. It was the list of colors and the human emotions they envoke that I thought was interesting.

This seems kinda silly but, my favorite color is green I guess. But if I had to pick red or blue I'd go with blue. My walls are dark blue and the carpet is blues as well as the seat.
Although my first truck was maroon. And my current is green...

But if were talking movie cases I really don't care. As long as the movie within plays well and is one I want or would like to see..

By the way, I chose blue, because I never cared for red. I never liked red cars, clothes, etc. Although I do like red heads, but that maybe because it is just a shade between blond and brown.

I had started a thread a while ago on HDF about the subject of colors and peoples reactions to them. Saw your thread and went and grabbed it - thought you might find it interesting.

Yes it defintely is. Do you have a link to that thread or does it still exist? And thank you for providing that info as it lends itself very well to the topic.:)

I'd imagine that blue will take this poll by a long shot. Most guys when given a choice between the most popular of colors seem to choose blue.

I myself have never been fond of blue, other than it being the color associated with boys in school, but I've always liked black. And no, I'm not emo or goth or whatever else people associate that color with.

So given the choices, I went with red because I wanted to vote.

I forgot to check the link to see if it was working - it isn't so I removed it. The thread never really went anywheres because it was posted in the No Topic Forum that High Def Forum has.

So you do have the info. . . . enjoy. It may get pulled because it really doesn't fit with HDSM but maybe the mods are tired of format war threads and will let it run for a while. How can you bicker about your choice of color?

Just saw one of those pointless news stories about peoples favorite colors. Most men prefered blue out of all colors and most women prefered pink, or a redder shade of blue (whatever that meant..purple?)

It's just coincidence that I own Blu-ray and prefer Blue. Baseball is my first interest, Cubby blue for life. Can't stand those Redbirds on the wrong end of I-55. Now who's going to be the first of you to compare the Cubs / Cardinals histories to the hi def format war? ;)

I really like both these colors honestly. But I picked red, just because I like the richness, and what it symbolizes as above. It's a strong color and it's included on most powerful or successful countries flags. Even though "reds" are associated with Communism, the US, Canada, fascist Germany and new Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Japan, etc all have red in their flags. The authoritarian countries used it as the field or background: the USSR, China, and Nazi Germany.

Like I said a strong color showing power, force, violence, sex and blood.

My car and motorcycle are both blue, as well as my Oakleys, all of which I owned long before ever hearing about High Def.

I haven't read through any of the comments, I voted blue, and here is why.

Red to me indicates some sort of warning. (Note: I own two HD-A2s and the vast majority of my HDM titles are HD-DVD.)

Blue doesn't offer the opposite, but it doesn't have that warning bell in the back of my mind going off.

IMO:

Blue is the color associated with love while Red is the color associated with sex.

I picked Blue because I am getting lots of love . . . but no sex!

I had athrea on this sometime back on theformat chosen colors

red is generally seen as more traditional stable and conservative building on the past

blue is more techie cool groundbreaking reaching for the future

but both are seenas strong business colors , especialy in North America (red white and blue )

made perfect sense based on HD DVD and Blu-ray marketing positioning

Jack Byrnes: I'm just curious, did you pick the color of the car?
Greg Focker: Uh no, the guy at the window did, why?
Jack Byrnes: Well they say geniuses pick green.
Greg Focker: Oh.
Jack Byrnes: But you didn't pick it.

I do like blue better than red, blue LEDs are better to mod random items than red ones. Cars, keyboards, USB ports, XBox (non-360), electric toothbrush, etc.

hasn't it been shown that most men's favorite color is blue? Don't men make up the majority of this forum? I would expect overwhelmingly blue to win.

Well my real favorite color is green, but when I was a kid it was red. Of the two choices offered it is red for me.

I really hope that people are voting what their favorite color is as opposed to what their favorite format is.

The reason why I ask is that an awful lot of people are voting red and red is a women's color. Do we have that many women here?

Give me green. I have a blue car, but I would rather have a red one.

Black is old school standard def DVD. White cases are too hard to keep clean. I like my red cases but would like for a few blue ones to accompany them.

I'll vote blue since the blue cases look all high tech like a blue LED.

I need some more coffee! :o

Great responses so far and Lee I believe you are right which is what I too expected. More people will pick blue as it tends to be more pleasing to the human eye/psyche.
