I have been using the Pioneer 578A player as my multichannel and regular CD player for the past three years and was wondering if an upgrade to one of the Oppo players, the 970 or 980 would be worthwhile. Anyone using one of these units? Opinions?

I just bought the Oppo 970 to replace an aging Pioneer 563A, primarily for the MPCM feed from the HDMI port (into a Yamaha HTR-6090) and am very pleased by the upgrade. I don't know how the analog output fares, but the HDMI is fabulous, including plenty of low bass on DVD-A discs that seemed lacking on the Pioneer.

I've been considering the Oppo since I too have a Pioneer 563a. Let me know your impressions if you do hook up the analog outputs...I don't have HDMI but am wondering how much of an upgrade it would be over the Pio. Thanks.
