Paramount: No Recall on Existing Blu-ray Titles, But Supplies Won't Be Replenished

Blu-ray fans, get 'em while they're hot: Paramount/DreamWorks has confirmed that they will discontinue production on all past Blu-ray catalog after current retail supplies are depleted.

Following Paramount/DreamWorks' HD DVD-exclusive turnabout that rocked the high-def world this Monday, the question remained: just what would happen to the studios' past Blu-ray releases currently available on store shelves?

We've received confirmation from Paramount that though there will be no "recall" of any past Blu-ray titles, the studio will cease production on its entire Blu-ray catalog, and they will no longer be available once current market supplies have been depleted.

In other words, Blu-ray fans hoping to pick up copies of such hits as 'M:i:III,' 'World Trade Center,' 'Dreamgirls' and 'Flags of our Fathers' better do so fast, as they're soon to become collector's items.

This news follows yesterday's confirmation that Paramount had cancelled the Blu-ray SKUs for all of its previously-announced upcoming Blu-ray titles, including 'Top Gun,' 'Face/Off,' and 'Blades of Glory,' (the latter of which had been scheduled for release next Tuesday).

If you'd like to participate in the last dash to buy Paramount's existing Blu-ray titles, we've compiled a complete list of Paramount Blu-ray discs (with direct links to Amazon) to assist in the process.

Surely Blu Ray fans won't buy the remaining stock from the evil money grabbers!

Wonder if the stock will hold out long enough to fulfill the BD rebate for people...

Does this mean that they won't be available for rental as well ?

Whatever is in the pipeline stays in the pipeline. If damage thins out the pipeline then they cannot be replaced.

As I own no Paramount Blu-ray discs to date, I thought I should grab some before they're all gone. I went ahead and ordered Italian Job, Sky Captain, and Trading Places for ~$16 a piece from Amazon. Who knows, they might become collector's item at some point.:)

It's rather interesting, as I look down that list, that I had heard the quality of the encodes on many of those discs was plain awful, or the movies were just plain bad: Norbit, Nacho Libre, Sky Captain.

I own Dreamgirls and Flags, but haven't viewed them yet (purchased them in a mass buy).

I had purchased an BR extra copy of the MI set to sell, and figured I wouldn't get anything out of it because of the negative press on it. Now maybe I will. Glad I waited and didn't dump it off.

I haven't bothered to open it yet.

I got three more for this reason; already had a few. To me personally Paramount titles aren't a huge deal, based on the BD's they've released so far. Now Warner, on the other hand, would be a whole different kettle of fish.

We've seen exclusive studios go neutral but is Paramount the first neutral studio to go exclusive?

Funny thing is that it took Paramount to go HD DVD exclusive for me to buy their Blu-ray discs.:)

Looks like it will be time to stock up on this movie and then put them on Ebay to see how desperate Blu folks are to snag an OOP Blu DVD.

Dang... I looked at the reviews for a few of those titles and NONE of the ones I might be interested in had lossless audio track. Maybe in 18 months time....
