Am in the market for a eD sub but cant find a picture to see if they look bad in person. I cant find none of them besides of the stock pictures. Does anyone have pictures of their eD sub?

Thanks

That picture was of an initial production item.

The finish has become a little more refined and we no longer use the bash amplifiers.

Here are a couple better pictures of the finish.

Yea Alex I think yall should put a logo on yalls subs as well. OK but whats the difference between bash amp and a regular amp?
Oh and the finish sord of looks like svs fine textured black finish. Telling from the pictures it looks good!!!

alexlindeman

We choose not to put a logo on the cabinets becuase we wanted them stealth and basic.

As for the Bash amplifier and our in house amplifier.

The original amplifier we sourced from Bash and had some issues. We decided that we could offer alot more performance for the same amount of money.

So far I've been pleased. This is my first subwoofer of this grade, so I don't have much for a frame of reference. I should have time to play with it thoroughly today.

I'm on the fence when it comes to ordering one, but I'm afraid my wife will have a melt down. Ignoring WAF is something guys our age are pretty good at. Give her the 1000 mile stare, "you talkin too me" look, shake your head, remain silent, but stubborn and wait til she leaves the house before turning it to 11. My wife has given up, has taken to long trips and I'm sometimes disappointed when she returns :D

This is what your wives really want in their living rooms.

500lb 4 x 18" 190v.2's - 3600 watts. You cannot fathom how hard this thing pounds. When you talk with it running sine waves at high levels, it makes your voice sound like when you are talking into a fan. The hair on your arms stands up and vibrates, and your shirt and pants start to flap. I'm not kidding.

Why doesn't ED make their sub's paint job like that HSU sub right there? just wondering

Too much is achieved only when the sub takes up so much room, there's not enough space for the TV, a remote, a recliner, a beer, and you. And room for the wife so she can bring you another beer.

I ordered my A3-250 on 8/3, it’s been in final assembly for a week now, paint room 10 days prior. I emailed Alex (Took 3 days to get a reply) to find out when it might be shipping and he told me that things have been slow because they’re building a new paint booth. He also told me that the Statuses were likely wrong and my sub is probably still waiting for paint. Needless to say I’m not very happy with the turn around time, it looks like I might not see my sub for another month. I’m actually considering just asking for a refund and just going SVS or HSU. I like the eD subs, but the turn around time stinks.

There is an entire batch of everything before the A5-350's waiting.

Unfortunately, a 2 day put together the paint booth time became a lot longer when it involved reorganizing a quarter of the warehouse. Good news is that tomorrow we put on the second door and anchor it to the floor. Then painting begins.

Jeff, as for yours...I'm not at work so I really don't know. If it was one of the ones sitting and just waiting for the boxes to show up, it'll go out tomorrow. I can't imagine JJ would have moved something to final assembly if it wasn't even in paint yet.

I officially have a queue of movies on my DVR which I'm holding off on watching until my sub gets in. I'm ready for it -- moved things around, got my new speakers up on the stands, even plugged in my subwoofer cable and put the other end where I think the sub will end up. I'm psyched -- this is my first real subwoofer and I'm itching to hear what it does for me.

Mine is still in the woodshop, though, so I've got a bit of time left to go. Patience is a virtue, right? :)

For me (and I know this is a personal thang), UPS does the trick where I live... I know the driver, and they are actually easy to track, where as FEDEX has been non-trackable (Onk 805 from 1call, some things from Amazon, etc.), always shows as SHIPPED, no way-points, then it's on my doorstep and the tracking shows everything:mad: Again, YMMV. But when I order my ED, I won't fret... like I said, my UPS driver will be happy he's left out of this deal:D

Well, we currently have enough of them built to meet the orders already entered which would mean any subsequent orders will go into new production runs of the cabinets.

From today, I would expect about 3 weeks until shipment. We've finally got the new paintbooth up and running, JJ is mixing his first batch of primer and it'll finally be used.

The problem with UPS isn't the driver. It's the way they treat the goods at the shipping facility. I don't think handle with care is in their vocabulary. ;)

Got my A3-250 this afternoon, one day early! I am very impressed with this sub. High quality build, after I hooked it up and made sure it works, I disconnected it and removed the plate amp to have a look inside the box. The LT350 amp is a great amp, very well made with a nice heatsink and big’ol power transformer. The woofer is built to take a beating, extremely well made, I don’t think you can blow it. And the finish is excellent, not excellent looking, but a great finish. The finish doesn’t fingerprint, and when I was moving the sub around my room I banged it against other objects and not a mark on the sub. The finish is better than vinyl for sure, and I prefer it over veneer since it wont scuff or scratch.

I’m going to post a review with pics for folks as soon as I as have a good listening. I sampled a few scenes from gladiator and the A3-250 took some punishment. With the subs level at 75% there was no distortion or port noise what so ever, bass was quick and tight, and most important nothing sounded boomy. The plate amp did get a little warm but after seeing what’s inside I don’t think I have to worry about it burning out on me.

I ran some tests with an audio generator and a spl meter to see how flat of a response and how low this sub can go. The A3-250 has a generally flat response between 30 and 80hz, the sub rolls off below 30hz, which is to be expected with a 10” woofer. Funny though……when measured along side my 15” advent av550s, which the A3-250 replaced, the A3-250 produced a flatter signal response, and a stronger db reading.

I got the sub to 105db at 30hz, which is plenty loud. I have no doubt the A3-250 can go louder, over the weekend I’ll have some more time to play with this sub. Overall I’m very pleased, eD makes a fine sub. My uncle who is a old school audiophile and absolutely hates modern gear because most of it is made like crap, and I tend to agree, he said “Those guys know how to make a speaker”. My uncle is not easily impressed so that’s saying something.

For the money, and I hate that term “for the money”, because it makes it sound like “Well if that’s all you have to spend”. For the money eD gives you more value and quality than anything you’ll find in a retail store, I would honesty expect to pay $600+ for a A3-250.

If anyone is in the market for a sub, check eD out, it was worth the wait.

Jeff-

We actually use FedEx exclusively now.

I’m sooo glad you guys use fedex. My sub was delivered with care, the driver had a helper and the sub was walked into my house like a hospital patient.

My brother later on in the day got a half stack delivered via UPS, one of the boxes had a 1” hole in it, and sure enough one of the speakers in the stack was damaged. UPS SUCKS! Now my bro has to jackass and send it back, and a half stack isn’t something you want to return.

So how low does it go?
How long did it take to get to you?

Took one month to receive from the time I placed my order, long but not too long.

I got the A3-250 down to 18hz, which is the lowest my audio generator can do. It didn't do sub 30hz with much authority, though the room was shaking so the bass was there. I started my test at 100hz at 90db, from there it went,

98db at 80hz
98db at 60hz
98db at 50hz
92db at 40hz
85db at 30hz

sub 30hz went below 70db, not to much there. In fairness though I really didn’t drive the sub hard in my test, I tested at what I normally listen. For shits and giggles I pushed 105db at 30hz, the sub can definitely go louder.

Here’s some pics I took for those interested in seeing the A3-250.

Jeff,
At what distance did you take the measurements? Also, what size room do you have? In an average size room, @ 2 meters ground plain, I would think that you should be producing 90+ db spls down to at least 20hz at max. output, with out any significant distortion issues.

My room is 9X12', I took the measurements about 2 feet from the speaker. I have no doubt the sub can dig deeper than it did, I was being gentil during my testing and I really didn’t want to stress the amp. I figure if I take another measurement at my listening position and start the test at 110db at 80hz, 20hz should hit at about 80 – 90db for sure. For a 10” sub this thing hits hard, it really surprised me.

Just to clarify so folks don’t misunderstand, the test I did was at a very low level. I honestly think I can do 120db in my room with this sub, once I have the house all to myself I can really see what this sub can do.

120 db isnt likely with a single 10" sub.. the difference between 105db and 120 is pretty considerable.. I'd be you can hit 110 but 120 may be a bit of a stretch.

True. you're right, 105 – 120 is a lot of output. eD says the sub can do 113 so that’s probably the limit, I’ll probably burn the speaker or the amp if I push 120.

So, I ordered the a3-300, in your opinion, do you think the 300 can produce more db at the low end?

I would have to think so, larger driver and all. Someone with the A3-300 would have to chime in to say for sure. Larger box and driver should always give you better bass.

Jeff is correct. If you go on the original ED thread which offers a comparison graph, you will see that the 300 and 250 series are very close down to around 20hz. At 18hz the smaller 250 gives up around 5db of output.

Also, right now I am running a supercube II from Def Tech. I wonder how much of a difference it will be?
