Curt Palme 08-23-07, 12:00 PM You can check the referral list on my site below, but repair of these sets is usually a DIY approach. I've got a test set that I can check and repair boards in. Under the top cover is an error code display, that will give an idea of where the problem is. I don't think you'll find anyone that's a qualified tech, but if you're willing to do some troubleshooting and board removal, I can repair the board and you'll be back up and running.
stevem341 08-23-07, 02:05 PM Curt, thanks for the reply.
I have all the covers off the unit, It does power up, and I do here some crackling in the tube area. There is no error code on the display. The Red and green tubes are lit which display horizontal lines on the screen. The blue tube is dark.
Back ground. The unit sits on the floor inside a hush box. I do have some air being vented out, but the temperature reading inside have sometimes reached 120F. About 5 years ago I accidentally left it on for a whole weekend while we were away, the readings inside reached 127F. But except for an occasional greenish picture, it has been working fine.
The projector is hooked up to htpc that I built and the last thing I tried was some High Def stuff I had on that computer. There was a red flash, so I powered it down and the powered it back up only to see the two green and red lines going across the screen.
If you want me to send you boards to test, I will, just let me know where to send them.
Thanks for you help

jtnfoley 08-23-07, 02:09 PM If that's a vertical scan failure, don't run it in that condition! You'll burn horizontal stripes across the tube faces and destroy the tubes.
stevem341 08-23-07, 02:17 PM I only had it on for a few minutes total. would a vertical scan failure be associated with a particular board?
Curt Palme 08-23-07, 02:49 PM It really sounds like the set is OK, but VENTILATE! 120 degrees will kill anything electronic!
Are the lines across the middle of the tubes or at the top? If they are relatively dim and at the top of the tubes, then that's the AKB line and nothing to worry about. If they are super bright and in the middle of the tube, you've most likely already got tube damage.
HOWEVER.. the 1292 is well protected, and a V fail would shut the set down with an error code.
Sounds like your source or cable might be bad. Do the menus and test patterns come up on the set? If so, I'll bet the set is OK, unless something random like the input board failed, but that's really rare. THe fact that the tubes light up means you have HV, and no error codes mean that 99% of the set is working.
Curt Palme 08-23-07, 02:49 PM Also, try feeding a video or Svideo source to the set and see if that works.
stevem341 08-23-07, 03:04 PM The lines are dim an run across the screen in pairs. There are about three of four pairs of red and green dim lines.
I can't get any menus or test patterns to display, and I tried s-video but that didn't work either.
Curt Palme 08-23-07, 03:23 PM OK, shoot me an email to curtpalme@shaw.ca and I'll get you to send a few boards to test in my set here.
Curt
Graham Johnson 08-27-07, 02:04 PM Curt, I have just parted a 1292 if you need any boards.
