Hi everyone,

I recently got my hands on a VPLW100 Sony SXRD projector when Tweeter went out of business for a heck of a price and am setting up my theater right now. I plan on a 110" screen (have yet to order, it needs to be fixed, not electric, could use tips on this as well) but have one major issues.

This is my big problem:

I've read the distance for using the projector with this size screen is 10 to 14 feet away. The nearest location I can fix the projector to is 17 ft away. There are absolutely no other spots I can place the screen in due to room layout with vaulted ceilings.

What workarounds can I use to get this projector to work...

Doesn't look like an issue to me.

well, I just feel silly...

thanks.

Another Question:

Local HT guys are telling me at 17 ft. throw distance I can't get a bigger picture out of this Projector than 105" Diagonal. The Cabinet is built to accomodate something in the neighborhood of 120". 2nd Opinion?

I haven't looked into your throw issue, but if you do have a problem, one option is to go with an anamorphic lens and scaler for a 2.35:1 setup. I have also seen ads in magazines for add-on lenses (they go in front of the pj like an anamorphic lens) that will change your throw ratio. While maybe not optimal, this might get you the big screen with little PQ degradation, depending on the quality of the lens.

Look at the calculator.

At 17' you can get an image between 97" and 167" diagonal!

Get someone else to do the install as your person does not know enough. This projector will work your distance and size.

I second that...if your installer doesn't know how to figure out a throw then move onto another.

Find some new local HT guys.

I don't see any issues with your install as far as throw and screen size goes.

I'm set up with my Ruby at 15 feet and can get around 150 inches with plenty of brightness so `120 should be not problem for you though you will lose some brightness. My advice is go CIH 2.35 anamorphic if you can swing it, you'll be very glad you did. Lurk over on the constant image height board to get a feel for if its something you want to explore. I did and am! I'm also going high power because at 15' I noticed the ruby could use a little bump in that area.

Needing a little help. I thought that Sony covered one replacment bulb on the VPLVW100. Mine has gone out and needing to replace and I am being told that Sony does not cover one extra bulb. Please help me out.

Bulbs usually only get a 90 day warranty.

Yeah I think they did that on the Qualia 004 (if I recall correctly), but that is not their standard warranty on the other models. It is 90 days from purchase. :(

How many hours did you have on it?

No replacment bulb coverage for the Ruby!

Depending upon how old your PJ is and how many hours you may be able to moan-and-groan to Sony and get them to replace it. they did this for me, but my PJ was only 5 months old and had less than 200 hours on the bulb. also, they required me to send the entire unit to their laredo service center to be checked out.

Free replacement is definitely a Qualia only warranty, sorry.
