Why not black for the screen wall?

How about a color darker than your carpet? A really deep brown, near black. It'll look black in the darkness of a theater.

Maybe. Havent really though about black. Not a dedicated enclosed room. Its my great room so I have to be careful not to make it to dungeon looking. Heres pic of screen wall and surroundings.

Dark blue would be better that the off white in your picture.

I would go flat black. If your screen is fixed, then a large portion of that wall will not be black. Black will provide the best image on your screen in terms of not having reflection around the screen from your projected image.

Cheers,

Will your screen be directly against the wall or away from it a few inches?

Definitely go flat black behind the screen, so to avoid any reflections from behind. But a real dark red (burgandy) would probably do really well around it. Maybe do the small side walls in the recess there in black to also avoid reflections.
