IGN's got a really nice three page article on KZ2. Including some actual hands-on impressions for only second time ever I think.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/815/815430p1.html
After the detailed breakdown was over, Mathijs surrendered the controller to IGN. This game plays well. From the moment we picked it up and began using it's double analog control scheme, everything felt natural. We blew away some guards, hurled a few grenades and tried out the brand new jump function. Jumping was left out of the original game in an effort to keep it based in reality, but even here it's being grounded -- you can't fire while in the air and can oly leap over small obstacles.

So, yeah. We walked and ran through the levels, picked up weapons and basically had a ball. Our shots tore up tables, put holes in the wall and ran as smoothly as everyone's been expecting them to.

Looking good!!! Let's just hope they've put as much effort into making the gameplay as good as the graphics.

I dunno...unless the limit jumping to vaulting over things, I don't think it's going to look very cinematic. It'll look like all of the other FPS generic jump animations, I imagine.

Looking good. Developers have been doing kick ass lighting on the PS3!

Game looks incredible...

"vault over things"? sounds like 360 fanboi to me..

I like the part at the end...

For the final question of the meeting, someone asked how much of the Blu-Ray disc the game would use. Mathijs and Steven chuckled. The E3 level everyone had just seen clocks in at 2 GB.

Guerrilla expects to pretty much use the whole disc.

Have fun with your teeny Halo 3, boys..

I have a feeling this game will kill it, and UT3 won't help matters much..;)

If that comment was directed to me, I have not had or ever plan on owning Xbox and Xbox 360. I own the PS1/2/3. So, you can check your enthusiasm at the door and act like an adult.

Thanks.

This game is being marketed as a cinematic FPS, no? They are going for realism, yes? How real do you think it looks when people "jump", when all it is, is pulling the legs up to the chest and then floating for about 1-3 seconds? Not to mention, while floating, you can move around in circles and go back and forth in any direction desired.

Do you honestly believe you can pull off a realistic jump like in a 3rd person perspective game? In case you hadn't notice, when characters jump/dodge/roll, they are pretty much stuck in one direction until they come to a stop. How's that going to work when you're playing a 1st person shooter?

I have a feeling Halo 3 will do absolutely fantastic in sales and not be killed. Are you man enough to place at bet against me? I'll give you 2:1 odds even ;) :)

30 fps is a much bigger :( for me...most people can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p with sets 55" and under, but it's not hard to see how purdy 60 fps is

Just wait til you see COD4 clipping along at 60fps--I'm in the beta on the 360 right now and it's smooo-oooth. 60fps will spoil you once you get used to it.

too many jaggies and it looks nothing like the CGI footage from a few years ago..disappointing, but hopefully the gameplay is good and the game will scale to 1080i.

i really don't know how IW is pulling it off with CoD4, but i wouldn't expect many future titles to be 60fps. developers are more concerned about getting the game looking as good as it can which usually makes for a 30fps target.

sorry I stirred the pot..

I know you are talking about in regards to the "jumping" thing.

I shouldn't have made that remark.

Believe me, jumping is a much needed addition. That was a major annoyance with Killzone 1. I'm sure they'll handle it right.

Latest gameplay video:

http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/14227Fantastic. As good as the stills look, it's just incredible in motion. The only real complaint I can make is the flames still look cartoony.

Great preview, but the previewer didn't know jack about the Killzone universe. The ISA are fighting the Helghast on their home planet of Helghan, NOT the Helghastians on Helghast.

I disagree about the jumping, but completely agree about the flame effects. The fire in CoD4 is the most realistic fire I have seen so far, and if KZ2 had fire like that, it would be perfect. Well, not perfect, but nothing aside from Crysis could touch the game (Crysis not only touching it, but slapping it across the face http://boardsus.playstation.com/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif).

i agree with rahzel. just because a game is at 30fps doesnt mean it wont be smooth. it seems that a lot of games out now that claim to be 30fps will run 30fps most of the time but will drop and have framerate stutters and thats what makes the game and the "30fps" not seem smooth. but if they can get this running looking that good and a solid constant 30fps this game is going to run beautifully smooth.
