I am looking at getting a projector primarily for use in conjunction with a PC. I think I have narrowed my choices down to the Epson Home Cinema 1080 and the Panasonic PT-AE1000U.

I would like to be able to play games and watch movies on the projector I choose. I am also focusing on the high resolution nature of these projectors.

I have read seemingly conflicting reports on threads here and at least one review that are not entirely clear on which of the projectors is more suited to my needs. Some seem to think that the Panasonic's Smooth Screen detracts from the 1080p resolution sharpness, while others have complained about a lack of sharpness when viewing the Epson.

Has anyone had personal experience they wouldn't mind sharing concerning either of these projectors in use with a computer (with 1:1 pixel mapping)?

Thanks,
Barney

Barney,
I had both for extended periods in my home and I run everything through my PC except the Tivo.

I don't recommend the Panny for PC desktop/app use because of the smoothscreen. It wasn't terrible, but it definitely was a tad soft. The Epson was razor sharp.

Incidentally, on video the Panny looked awesome; I thought the Epson looked less-good with poor colors.

Assuming you get a unit with good convergence and know how to calibrate the colors (I don't), I'd go with the Epson.

The only other thing I will say is that both units are really awesome when you get down to it. If you get a good one you'll be thrilled with either I bet (my panny had focus uniformity issues and the Epson had just a tad too much red misconvergence for my tastes).
