View Full Version : How crappy is Enchanted Arms, for reals..
OK...I am drolling over lack of RPG's for the PS3...
I really want to try out Enchanted Arms, but, the reviews are holding me back. I would rather hear from people hands on who have tried it and/or beaten it.
I don't care if the storyline is the transcendental RPG story, I just feel like I need a game, and this one is really cheap on EBay...
Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!
Its not that good of a game really. If you're desperate maybe, but otherwise its best to avoid.
mboojigga 08-24-07, 05:32 PM Why not just rent it and decide for yourself if it is a good game to you
It's crappy, I own it. But I played through just because it's an RPG.
It likes to freeze often so save every chance you get.
The voice overs are horrible and have to keep pressing the "X" button through a 20minute plus talking scene gets old.
Funny, I was also thinking about buying it off of ebay...just looking at it yesterday actually. For those of you that own it, is it worth paying $15, or should I just pass it over completely. $15 is a price that makes the most mediocre of games more appealling to me lol.

Mattardo 08-24-07, 07:20 PM My girlfriend loves RPGs and really wanted to play this, until she saw you had to use sixaxis gimcick controls to pull off some of the moves. Are these moves possible without shaking the controller around like Michael J. Fox trying to open a jar of jelly beans? Something in the options, perhaps? She might give it a whirl, then, but she's too scared to spend the money yet.
Cryptopsy 08-24-07, 07:28 PM I'm one of the few that really liked this game, i think it got a good story, not great but good. And having a lot of choice of character is something i really like. Some people had problem with the game freezing but i never had them. And for that sixaxis thing... you do NOT need to use it... u can but i can also just use the button. Seriously at least rent it, i paid 45$CAN for it and i'm not disappointed a bit!

Mattardo that was effing brilliant I laughed my arse off.
Mattardo 08-25-07, 08:31 AM That's good news - perhaps she'll try it now. I had to buy her a DS so she could get her RPG fix - though she has trouble using the stylus because she won't pray for a cure, according to Rush Limbaugh.
Slordak 09-12-07, 04:04 PM I played this game on the Xbox 360 and thought it was pretty decent. Not stellar, but considering there is a decided lack of Japanese RPGs for any system besides the Playstation 2 at the moment, it's really not that bad.
Of course, the 360 version didn't have any Sixaxis controls, so...
How do the two versions compare? Is the PS3 version a port over from a 360 version, with modifications for the controller. I've noticed that this game has gotten pretty cheap, even in local B&M stores. I'm also a fan of RPG and thought about getting it but haven't really read enough about it to decide.
Conspiracy* 09-12-07, 04:21 PM its $10 at my local gamestop but I still cant bring myself to buy it. I've already wasted $120 on ps3 games (warhawk and motorstorm), something is gonna have to be a SURE thing before I buy another one, even if its only $10 bucks
I went ahead and bought it off EBay for a grand total of $12.
I have played it for a total of two hours. Not horrible, just not as enjoyable as one made by Square. I've put it on the shelf and dove back into Oblivion after hearing mutterings of Shivering Isles coming out soon...there is so much to this game and I haven't even started the main quest line yet...
Conspiracy* 09-12-07, 04:27 PM I couldnt do Oblivion. Looks like a PC dungeon crawler from win95, plus great visuals.
Mattardo 09-12-07, 07:50 PM My girlfriend bought it the other day for the 360 (even with the option to turn off the six-axis shake she wanted to be absolutely postitive it would use a normal controller) and so far she says "eh". You can see the scenery (at least on the 360) glitch out while panning the camera. She's 2 hours into it and says "I'm still in training...". There's a character that ruins the game for me - not the main character, and not Toya - but their friend who is in love with Toya ... and is .. well. I'll let your imagination fill in the rest or I'll probably break some rule here at the forum having to do with tolerance.
Yep...I know exactly who you are talking about...
My 8 year old son piped in, "Why does that boy keep saying he loves that other boy?"
Guess its time for "the talk" with him.
Really didn't need to be put in a game...not against it, but, it doesn't do anything for the story.
Mattardo 09-12-07, 08:45 PM The guy acts like your typical "jealous b" without the benefit of having large b's to help me overlook the "jealous b" part....
Slordak 09-13-07, 09:57 AM Don't worry, once you get into the heart of the game, Makoto isn't around. While he is in the party at certain points, he is *not* part of the core cast of characters that one travels with for the bulk of the game.

The game is japanese right? Theres always something strange going on in obscure japanese RPGs
krimson 09-13-07, 10:45 AM I thought this game was fun. I enjoyed the battle system although wouldn't have minded the random encounters to be a touch harder. Make sure to play with the Japanese voices if you don't mind reading subtitles because the acting is way better and there is a ton of humor in their tones and stuff that just isn't picked up in the english acting.
As to the "Makoto" issue. If you're homophobic I say just avoid the game entirely. Makoto goes away but the homoerotic humor is persistent throughout the game. There is also a younger girl character brought in and there is some suggestive dialog going on there. Remember this is targetted towards a less sexually repressed Japanese audience so not everything translates well into american culture.
darthrsg 09-13-07, 11:16 AM It is a JRPG.

Let us thank the Japanese for bringing us the glory that is "naughty tentacles". I'm not necesarrily homophobic. I just think there's a fine line between being who you are and being extremely flamoyant in case everyone around you can't figure out who you are. This choice in sexual preference has been around for 1000s of years, but hasn't always been so advertised or stereotypical as Makoto is. It reminds me of the family guy episodes where Ellen Degeneres and some other woman are swinging on a swing on their porch and they shout "We're gay!" Yes, that's nice and all - but you don't see me going around shouting "I enjoy sleeping with members of the opposite sex! It's my thing! It's who I am and I just wanted to make sure that every single person in a 100 foot radius is aware of that fact! You know - so I can accuse you all of discriminating against me for any little thing! Got it? I'm a heterosexual!!!" Not every gay character in a movie or film or game has to be flaming...

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but I think this character was intended to be stereotypical / over-the-top for comedical reasons. But again, it's just not necessarily something that translates into our culture.
