Well as a little background...Setting up a complete home theatre that consists of a 52" Bravia LCD, the Toshiba HD-XA2 player, and the Sony DAV-IS10 HTIB(reciever/dvd player + 5.1 speakers). Seeing as none of it is payed for by me(im merely the point man) I dont get complete controll over the setup, and in this case that meant the Sony DAV-IS10 HTIB. Basicaly it only exists for the speakers. The HD player and Reciever both connect to the TV seperately(Both HDMI connections, reciever has no 1080p inputs for HD player).

My problem: I need all of the audio(including the HD player) to use the 5.1 speakers. That is simply its only purpose(in the future there may be additions, but right now its just the HD-DVD player and analog local channels). As is I can only get that sound out of the one input channel that the reciever is on(in other words I can get the 5.1 surround sound when playing DVDs on the reciever, but its worthless for that since the HD-XA2 does it all better). I can hook up the Red/White audio output from the TV to the reciever and get the other channels, but they only play on two speakers(I may be a noob but I assume the analog left right only is two channel, seems kind of obvious to me.).

First question, will hooking up an optical audio cable from the TV output to the receiver input allow me to then play that 5.1 speaker system for all channels(why doesnt it just send the audio through the HDMI)?

Second, if I hooked up that reciever and the HD player, through HDMI cable to another HD reciever(looking at the Onkyo SR-605) when I switched the Onkyo to the HD player im assuming I can still get the 5.1 audio but I have to use the optical audio cable?

The only reason I cant just unplug the speakers from the sony reciever, and stick them into the Onkyo(hypothetical reciever at this point) is because they use some kind of wierd connector that i guess is Sony only. Annoying, makes things more difficult, but I dont get a say in everything...

I apreciate anything you can do to help. I havent spent a lot of time with home theatre systems so they are on the new side to me.
