View Full Version : Am I really getting the most from my Projector?

I posted this thread in the gaming forum, but as the issue seems to be similar to Comcast HD content, I thought I would ask.

I've been 'happy' gaming/watching HD Comcast content in my home theater, but I didn't realize that I may be missing something.

So I was reading that Xbox 360 games have to support minimum of 720P, but does that refer to the output content quality, or the upscaled quality?

I run everything through a Pioneer VSX-84TXsi, output to a Sharp XV-Z10000 (1280x720p native projector). More specifically, connected to the pioneer I have the Xbox connected via component (monster xbox 360 cable) and the Comcast HD-DVR connected via HDMI, and then all signals are passed through (without conversion or upscaling) via HDMI (DVI at the projector end of the cable) to my Sharp PJ.

When I press the input button for the projector I can see that indeed the image is 1280x720 (and fills the entire screen nicely) but is 480P. not 720P??

So I'm wondering if I am putting up with a far lower quality gaming/viewing experience than my equipment is capable of? I know the receiver is not the 'bottleneck' (unless I'm missing something) and the projector is capable of a 720p resolution.....
I've tried changing the input settings on the PJ, but this is the one that works best, so I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do?

I am not sure if this is the right forum, but thought worth asking!
Thanks!

I feel like such a dumb a$$ - I changed the settings in the Xbox and voila - 720p (and yes, it looks a LOT better.) :)

Try it at 1080i and see if you like it even more.
