What is a good option for me for my HT if I have an equipment rack, projector and Lutron Remote lighting? I want to do the 'press one button' thing but with the Harmony, I have to use those little RF wires and it's a pain and how would that work with the PJ anyway? Is there a better solution that's does not cost an arm and a leg?
TIA

Hey Wingnut
I just set-up a harmony 1000 with RF extenders and it works great. I have a dedicated HT room just like yours and I needed a remote for that room only. I have a Sanyo Z3 overhead and a rack in the back on left side. My Lutron 3106 control is right next to my equipment rack. What I did was have my projector being turned on by IR on the remote and I Velcro the Extender on bottom of my left aft speaker which is mounted on my back wall. I'm able to point it at the rack and use the blaster feature on the RF extender to turn things on (about 6 or 7 feet away) and avoid the ugly the wires hanging around on my equipment. I too did not want to deal with them. That was my plan and it worked out.
Some people on this site slam the Harmony 1000 for issues related to Z wave and other problems and I'm sure they are accurate, but they may be vocal minority. I just bought my items from a place with a great return policy (major warehouse on-line site) at a very good price and gave it try. Don't buy at brick's mortar retail.
I did have to spend a 1 1/2 with Logitech Level 2 guy last night to get my remote and the extender talking together. But he was a nice guy and walked me thru everything and was able to tweak my equipment list right on line too. It was time well spent and he even gave me his number right to him at level 2 for further issues. People forget to be nice to this people sometimes and that this is a trick unit to setup and get running.
Once I got the remote and the extender updated and commutating. I placed the extender in the back pointed at my rack. It worked great. As long as I point the remote at the screen to start with for my projector start-up (IR), the RF works flawlessly. Keep in mind this is just 1 day, but the set-up is so nice with equipment list and real people support I don't see how you can go wrong.
This remote replaced a Home theatre 6000 which I can't see as easy now as I get older and my wife hated it always having to point it over her shoulder. I best endorsement is my wife used all night and never had one problem with it. She Loved it.....
The combination of LCD and hard buttons are well thought out. I put allot of work in planning out my room (like you are, if your already thinking remote) and the only piece which has always been sub standard has been my remote. Not anymore.
Sorry this is so long, but your room read so much like mind I feel like I needed to share that you can get it done without using the "little Wire" if you can get the Blaster feature close enough. If not you way have to use the Wire things or you’re end pointing a IR all over the place and be in remote Hel*.
Keep me posted on what you do....Mike

They are very vocal and there do seem to be two main issues:
- Z wave (which Harmony gave up on after launch: not very cool).
- Freezing (not so cool either).
That said, there are several who have posted happy experiences with the H1000.

Why so coy? Are you talking about Costco, and $349 shipped? It is not showing up right now, but may be back later though. Let us know so that others can benefit. Good advice about B&M, they mostly charge MSRP ... rediculous!

I only needed one call to them and it was excellent. CS seems to be very good with Harmony: They do everyting for you and then tell you to plug in your remote while it updates automatically!
One other point: if the H1000 worked with RF, the 890 will too. It has RF and an included extender for just $230 or so on amazon.com (shipped). It does not look nearly as cool (what does?!) but has had fewer issues, I think.

Thanks Kex
I did not know the rules on naming sites and prices figuring wingnut could get the idea. Now that I know. I picked up the extender at amazon.com.
I considered the 890 also but wanted the large lcd for my eyes which seem to fading with old age. It was a little strage handing around this remote last night when you are used to using one like 890. It seems like a winner so far for me...Time will tell...
